Since DVI is analogue you need to do an analogue to digital conversion using a vga to dvi adapter which arent cheap.

My computer video card has DVI out and I can see it on my VGA monitor.

Is DVI->VGA alot easier then VGA->DVI?

hey i have the regular sony sxrd that only upconverts 1080i to 1080p output so my question is will the update for 1080p still give me 1080x1920 upconverted and also how are you supposed to get 16x9wide screen from vga because i dont want a picture that only half way fills the screen being that is 50inches so can someone please explain how this is gonna work?

My VGA output looks much clearer and crisp than component.

This is fine for me considering I would never use component over VGA.

Same here.  I never planned on using component with my 360 again anyways...

if you guys think vga is blurry couldn't you just grab ~$3 component->vga cables off ebay? thats what i use for my ps2 (for all 2 games that are 480p) and xbox.

vga isn't hdcp compatible is it? if it isn't it shouldn't be much trouble to caputre it.

It actually isn't.. only digital interfaces like HDMI and DVI are, so why we can get maximum resolution with VGA is a bit weird, unless its because theres not alot of VGA capture cards, and the couple ones ive seen only handle res upto 1280 x 1024, which i think isnt 1080p.

Don't acctually know if this is something to cry about, if you do some reserach you'll find you'll be very hardpressed to find any tvs that support 1080p via component. Like the sony one caldor linked to, 1080p only with hdmi and vga only supports 1360*768(its a sony hehe).

Pheidias the impact I'm a bit miffed about is the loss of standard def upscaling on component. I don't know if there are actually any VGA HDTVs that will take 1080P, but there is certainly lots of HDTV's that will take component 1080i. People like me who have existing collections of standard def DVDs would have found the component upscaling on the 360 to be useful.

I feel like we cop it both ways - no HDMI means we cant enjoy high def like it was supposed to be, and no HDMI means the old dvd's dont get upscaled either.

Look at how you typed the resolution.  That won't be 16x9.  that would be 9x16.  Meaning tv would be vertical

Merlihin, that 57" what is it's supposed "native" resolution since it doesn't even do 720p it probably isn't even a hdtv display, but the the 1080i might look awesome anyways does it have a fahroudja chip?, but a DLP or lcd backprojection with a 720p native would look much better since it will be able to display every pixel.

Badtazz33 what are you talking about, if you have a 50" Widescreen tv that does 1080p, the 1920*1080 resolution will be selectable from the x360 dash I guess. With component you won't get 1080p, if you use vga and your tv supports 1080p through it then yes. After some checking with google as help, it seems your tv is 1920*1080 but can't acctually recieve 1080p signals. So no you won't be getting any 1080p since your tv can't do it

Badtazz33 read this thread it will probably cover all you wanna know about your tv

You guys keep comming up with negative stuff about all this. I have a widescreen monitor, I'm sure they'll put in a extra 16x10 res somewhere. Any increase in 16x10 res to the current would be nice.

From the Original Post: "Even after the software upgrade this fall, via component cables, the Xbox 360 will still only upconvert DVDs to 480p..."

So, this new update will mean NOTHING to those of us with HDTV's with only component inputs.

That, frankly, sucks the major wing-wang.  grr.gif  grr.gif

Oh well, looks like I will continue using my modded Xbox with XBMC to upscale all my DVD's to 720p or 1080i.

Maybe I'll get an LCD HDTV after the first of the year....  uhh.gif  blink.gif

The software update for the console will add the ability to display both games and films at this lofty resolution. Kim explained that "if it is running at 720p we will up-res it to 1080p, if it it's already 1080p then we can display it in 1080p." In what's surely a snipe at PS3 and Sony, he added, "this is a great example of our console's ability and the great advantage of being a software company."
hey who ever told me about my tv will not take 1080p was right but what does this article mean can u explain
