I had a HUGE hard drive failure about 20 minutes ago.  I lost mostly everything except a few txt and doc files.  I'm really screwed here as to make the date of tomorrow's last video.  I'll get back to you on this ASAP.  Let me try and recover from this sh*t storm.   sad.gif

I didn't spend a lot of time searching but here are a couple of threads from December 2005. As far as I know there really hasn't been a good guide written for it though.

If you guys still want my tutorial after seeing the last post just PM me and tell me.  Don't post it in here.  Depending on how many PM's I get will determine if I continue this tutorial.  I'm using the rest of my day to recover some of my data off this POS Maxtor HD

argg...i keep getting video error ("Files needed to play video are not installed or not working correctly. please restart media center or your computer") when i try to play a video on Media Center. The same video works with Windows Media Player though.

i guess i'll just have to wait until xboxexpert to release his tutorial!

THANKS xboxexpert jester.gif

Oh I get this too.  I thought it was a codec issue.  All I have to test are AVI's.  Try a mpg and see if you get the same error.

yea...i tried mpg files and its still a no go sad.gif so far, non of my videos work....maybe its a video card issue. my VMware installed the default video drivers (VMware SVGA II). is it possible to change that?

and update:

it seems that i cant get media center (on the xbox) to open pictures in files that i allowed for sharing. it gives me a "shortcut error". however, if i close media center(on the xbox) and go to pictures, it reads everything fine.

i'll continue to fiddle with it...hopefully it'll work!!!!

Does MEDIA CENTER PORTAL EDITION update for XP allow you to stream video? Also check out my post about the mac as a DVR. All the software is free. m2t file format via firewire from the cable box. you can do it as well through WMC. And the best part is that your cable company is required by law to give you a box with a firewire port for no charge if you order digital cable and/or HD programming. FCC regulations.

Here is the link that is selling WMC portal Edition on ebay.
