Order 335 (now canceled).

I ordered a $500 modded box based on the excellent feedback on these forums.  Unfortunately, my experience has been much more negative.

Placed my order towards the end of August (26th/27th).  Realizing CMS had something of a backorder, I emailed them prior to ordering to ask an ETA if I ordered a pre-mod box - I was told 5-10 days.  So I ordered and waited patiently.  about  13-14 days out from the order date, I send an email to them, asking for a status on my order.   I received a cryptic response back about how the order was "processing" (which I knew because it had been "processing" since the day after my order, when they charged my credit card).  Obviously, I wanted a more specific time period and asked them for one.  I recieved an email back that they were on order 308 (and I was 335).  I sent them back an email, trying to determine how many orders they fill per day, so I could get some idea about how long I'd be waiting.  No response to that email.

I went ahead and canceled my order using instructions on their website.  I recieved no acknowledgement that my order was canceled.  My order remained "processing".  I was also concerned because their website  states that they charge a 15% fee if the order is canceled once "processing" has begun and clearly, I didn't think I should be charged that fee, considering work on the box had not even started.   When I recieved no follow-up email to the cancelation, I sent an email to their sales folks, giving them 3 days to confirm my cancelation or I'd have to go report it to my bank for a chargeback and leave negative feedback.  I got no response.  So on Friday of last week I walked my unhappy butt down to my bank and spent half hour filling out a charge-back affidavit and then sent CMS an email notifying them I had done so.  On Saturday (could have been very late  Friday), I finally received confirmation that the order had been canceled.  To date, they still have not done a chargeback to my CC but I do understand that might take a bit of time.  However, I will report if the chargeback doesnt happen timely.

I realize that some delays will occur.  I also realize that the folks that do these modding are usually small operations and can't handle alot of volume.  However, if you can't handle the volume, you should do one of two things- stop taking orders or be prepared to offer the customer who's product/service was delayed  a discount or a bonus or something for being patient with you.  CMS might have kept my order if they had done any of the above- instead, I got to the point where I just didn't trust them and over the internet, trust matters (you guys know how easy it is to get screwed online).  There's a certain level of reliability I want in the companies I do business.  I'm assuming they will be more reliable once they get their orders straightened out.

It should be noted that I went with another mod shop on this site, who built and shipped a box for me (as they promised) within 3 business days plus included some extras without charge.  I'll be posting a review for those folks once I have the new box.

I'm order #331 and thought since order 330 received his around September 5th,  I thought mine would be next and would have been here by now.  I was wrong.  They stated they were having email problems and if you had sent an email and not received a response to re-email.  I did and still no response.

CMS has a good reputation with previous buyers on this forum.  I'm just frustrated that the order numbers do not mean much.

I am actually a second time buyer at this website.  My first time purchasing, I was completely happy with the product and the amount of time in which it was delivered.  However on my second purchase, order # 304, it was ordered

07/27/2004     Pending
07/27/2004    Pending    Thank you for the order. Please send items to:

Carolina Mods

Your order will not process until items are received.

Thank you.

09/04/2004    Shipped    Your order has shipped. USPS Priority Mail

Thank you.

However, I have not recieved the package within 16 days of the shipping date.  No notification from the post office and only a tracking number that says awaiting delivery by the seller.  However, he did e-mail regarding the status of the producat and said that he would check on its status himself in a couple days.   But the email address at carolinamocservices.com no longer works because of an e-mail server change.  How am I supposed to get in contact with him  now?  Because I ordered this product for a friend, I may be forced to reimburse him myself.  He is under the belief that he is ripped off and frankly, I believe the same thing.  I can understand high volume orders, but for this long of a period of time?

This is what John wrote to me and my replys:

I have not recieved my product as of yet and it has already been 16 days since it was shipped from your end.  I would appreciate if you could locate whether the product was shipped or not.

Sincerely,

The status will remain as such until the item is delivered.   The packags are usually not scanned until delivered.  We have seen this many times in the past and it is normal for the status to remain unchanged until item is delivered.   However, it is taking an unusual amount of time for this item to be delivered.  If it is not received in the nex few days, please notify us so we can file a claim with USPS.

Thank you,
CMS

I checked the mail at the address listed but still have not recieved the package.  The united states postal service lists the package as awaiting delivery from sender.

People with order numbers after mine are recieving their product first.  Is it because it wasn't a premod?  My first order was a premod so I'm beginning to believe he priortizes the orders based on that fact.

grr.gif Order 296 grr.gif

Still Have not got my xbox from this place after mine and others posted about it taking way to long I Wrote them Asking For them to ship it that week or give me my money back.  They Said It will Ship on Saturday. On 9-4 I was e-mailed saying it shipped. So I waited and waited and still today 9-21 i still have not got any shipment from them.(and as anyone who has stuff shipped Priority Mail it normaly takes 2-3 business days to get it)  When i use the tracking number on usps.com this is all it says:

The U.S. Postal Service was electronically notified by the shipper or shipping partner on September 04, 2004 to expect your package for mailing. No further information is available for this item

All that means as they were just notified about the package. It does Not even Say they got the package or that it is in transit.  I Have E-mailed the past 2 days have got no reply so i have no choice but to leave this review i will update if somthing changes but as it stands now. THIS PLACE IS A SCAM. cussing.gif

dry.gif  All I can complain about is the amount of time that it took to receive, bout 1 month and 2 weeks. But the quality of the mods done to it are A+. Great job done. smile.gif  Too bad for the long wait though. If you can wait a month and a half to get your xbox and want a good job done. buy from CMS.  cool.gif

Order #341
I also am a repeat customer with this shop. My prior experiences with this company have been fantastic. Awesome communication, quick turnaround, and quick shipment. I was reccomending this service to all my friends. In fact, I helped two of them get thier boxes modded through this site. At the first of this month, I sent my Xbox in for repairs (this is the third time I personally have used this shop.) I have been disappointed ever since. I have received little to no reposnse to my emails, I have not been kept updated of the status of my Xbox.

I will post back here when and if I receive my Xbox in good repair.

NOTICE: John has contacted me and let me know that he is working on my Box and taking care of getting it fixed. It turns out they were having a problem with thier mail server again. It looks like I spoke to soon and John and CMS are still up to par, just a little slower than before.

Order #297

I placed my order for a premod on July 25, since then it seems I have had nothing but problems with CMS. The first month I decided to wait and not ask any questions due to the fact that they must have been really really busy... I accepted this. But around the month and a week border I sent in a few emails to them asking about where my xbox was in the line etc... in which they replied

"Your order will be shipping this week"
I thought to myself awesome, they are working on it and I will be recieving it very soon, however this was not the case and another week went by so I sent in another email asking the same question to which I got the reply

"Your order is next in line it will be shipping this week no doubt"

Once again they did not come through and it has been two weeks since, i have not written and email as I am figuring out how to cancel my order, I am VERY very dissapointed because they have lied to me not once, but twice and this is not good business at all. I wish they would be truthful with their customers but as it would seem through this post they are not willing to do this.

I am going to be cancelling my order as soon as I figure out how, I cannot seem to find any reference to this on the CMS website so I guess I will be contacting my credit card company... Unless I hear something real soon from CMS, which after 2 months or so doesn't seem like it's going to happen...

ORDER AT YOUR OWN RISK the premod processing at CMS IS NOT 15-20 expect about 60-??? days if your lucky!

order #342

I ordered for my Xbox to be repaired on 9/6/04 and they have yet to ship my order. I got an email from them on 9/17/04 saying that they would ship it in the coming days. It did not ship so on the 20th I emailed them asking for a update on my x-box, they have yet to email me back.

I did buy a premod from them awhile back when they were pretty new but it was the same old service, It took a month till I got my xbox but they did email me back a lot faster.

As a follow-up to my previous post. to the best of my knowledge, my money was never refunded by CMS.  Instead, my bank did a chargeback on my account pending their investigation.

The lack of a chargeback or any email from CMS explaining when the money would be charged back is unacceptable.  I would be VERY wary about ordering from CMS.

As an alternative, check out my review of Modordie.com, who I ordered from once I canceled my order from CMS.
