Dell Pocket Dj
« on: December 25, 2005, 04:25:00 PM »

After looking at xbox360.com and such to figure if a Dell Pocket DJ will work I then persued for the firmware update.
I looked at a few on Dell's site and nothing mentioned Xbox 360 support.
I was wondering if anyone has an idea on what firmware I need to update to.

yeah, i'm interested in this too,

i tried plugging in my dell pocket dj into a friends 360, and it didn't find it, so i'm wondering if it needs a new firmware or an update from M$?

EDIT: in the FAQ thing that's stickied, it says you need the free update from the XBLM to run an iPod, so i'm wondering if M$ is developing an update to use with the dell line of mp3 players? (which actually use nearly the same firmware as the creative line, and together, dell and creative take up a big chink of the mp3 player market not taken by apple...)

EDIT 2:off topic, but does anyone know of any hacks for the pocket dj? ive searched google but i always come up dry.

The Dell DJs do work, however you need to have the PlaysForSure firmware installed. My girlfriend's DJ is detected just fine, however so far it doesn't seem to be able to stream subscription music from Napster. It does see all of it, including synced playlists, but doesn't play it.

i haven't been able to test this, as i dont have a 360 yet, but if someone else could, that'd be great!

Here's the Link for the Playsforsure firmware for the Pocket DJ:

And here's the playsforsure firmware for the DJ Gen 2:

Hope this works!

VERY IMPORTANT EDIT!!!: Make sure you backup your ENTIRE audio/data files onto your harddrive BEFORE upgrading the firmware, as it removes all files during the update!!

another note: when you update the firmware, the Dell DJ Explorer no longer works, everything is done through WMP or explorer.

I can confirm that a Dell DJ with the playforsure firmware (available on dell.com) does work with the xbox360.  I've had that firmware since before launch and plugged my DJ into my 360 the day I got it and everything works fine.

Once you upgrade the firmware, ensure you install Windows Media Player 10 on your pc and the dell dj will then operate as if it's a removable drive, rather than requiring the DJ Explorer software.
