Streaming is still not 100% perfect, it get minor glitches here and there, hopefully MS will tune this and release an update for it(actually hoping we'll get XBMC on it). Also sometimes, files will play, sometimes they skip right to the restart file option again. The Xbox360 Media Connector is Beta at best.

I'd like to put the 360 in my bedroom with my HDTV and leave the xbox with the 43" Sony RPTV in the livingroom. There's no way the 360 is replacing my trusted Xbox for media playback any time soon. Maybe when the linux geeks crack it so devs can put a REAL media player in there. Just imagine XBMC with native HD support and TIVO capability!!!!! Well, some of my .TS files run at approx 23Mbit/sec - so you would need a pretty clean signal with no WEP encryption on a Wireless G to get a good experience. you can always turn off encryption and turn On Mac filtering for security.

Also here is an update. a FEW .TS files I downloaded and 2 .TP files will not stream, even with HDTV pump. They play fine on the PC, but show as unrecognized or corrupted on the X360

Anyone know of a util to combine the 160 part .TS files? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Tell me something puppydg68... Can you play (stream) these .ts files "ONLY" if they're ripped on the MCE PC itself? Meaning, you can't just burn it to a DVD (what will fit anyway) and play it on the 360? What about HD-WMVs like the one on T2 Extreme Edition? Does it play locally on 360 dvd drive or stream from MCE PC DVD-ROM? Can you check this if you have the movie... I remember somebody here had it, not sure if it was you. If the answer is no to all of this, I'm truly disappointed at what a piece of shit this capability is on the 360. On top of it, it won't be too much longer and the .ts will be encrypted anyway (except maybe OTA, but not indefinitely). So what's left? Pay-per-view RESOURCE HOG HD-WMVs galore and TV content through marketplace that only plays on a single device (360) and is DRMed to the point of sheer frustration. I imagine we'll see more of this when fiber (on the local loop) becomes a commodity and MS rolls out their IPTV.

H.264 IS the future of High Def. IMO, The sooner MS and Sony realize this without trying to pussy foot and push their own agenda (hd-wmv and mpeg2 respectively), the better off we as consumers will be. Let the format war get the fuck over with so we can crown the victor and end this nonsense (I hope)!

Video on the x360 can currently only be played from two locations: either stored locally on the internal hdd (and the only way for a movie to get there is through the official xbox live downloads -- so no personal content there at all), or through the MCE extender mode streaming from the mce pc.

Only DVD videos can be played back in the dvd drive of the x360. so any other movie you want to play has to be shared from the mce pc.

It doesn't matter where the file comes from; as long as it's supported just drop it into a shared location and play it. As I mentioned in another thread, I don't use the mce for recording at all, simply for sharing my videos that come from other devices.

ProjectX does it.

Just open the app.. load all the .ts files up into it.. and coose "Procces Window" or whatever instead of the quicklaunch button.

Then it gives you some radio buttons at the top and one of them is "To TS".. which makes one big TS file from any number of TS files.

Only took a few minutes for me on a 100 parter or so

I have had great success with HDTV2MPEG to convert all my TS files for the 360. My problem is this. Say I'm watching an hour long show. The first five minutes I can fast forward, pause, and rewind all I want to. But once I pass about 5 minutes into the show, if I fast forward, pause, or rewind, the screen goes blank and so does the sound, although it still acts like it has done what I asked for it to do (pause rewind etc.)
Has anyone else had this problem with HiDef stuff?

Also, I have noticed a lot of sound issues with regular mpegs or mpeg conversions from xvids. And by "sound issues" I mean the sound is off from the video. I wish MS would have added a feature like XBMC has where you can speed the sound up or slow it down to fit the video.

Great info in this thread, I was having a problem with T2 extreme edition.

Does anyone have any experience with .MKV (matroska) files? I have some HD programs in this content and haven't had any luck converting to .MPG or .WMV.

You sure that if you made a VCD (video cd) that it wouldn't play? I know it did on the old xbox? I think it would. in which case I want to clear something up the people were saying earlier. You could put high definition content on a video cd, and supposedly play that back on the 360. That DOESN'T make it a high definition DVD. What makes it HD-DVD is the amount of storage on the disc, and the bottom line is that our 360 will not read those new discs unless you buy the HD-DVD drive that has been talked about.

But you could play high definition video on the 360, it would just be in a video cd format and have a max of 700mb (which all cd's have) so obviously you aren't gonna get a whole movie on there.

My xbox360 is playing .ts files (720p & 1080i) fine with no HDTVpump installed.

All i have installed on my PC is Windows 2005 MCE, Nvidia Purevideo Video decoder & media connect.
Dont know why mine works, but it does (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

As for copying multi .ts files into one file easy way is just use copy /b in a cmd window.

eg

For film with files : filename0001.ts to filename0100.ts

Open a cmd window and type:

copy /b filename*.ts JOINEDfilename.ts

simple but effective.

It works because you have the Purevideo decoder. For joining .ts files I use Null Packet Stripper. Its a small java utility. It seems to do a good job and works quickly.
