Playing High Defintion Movie On 360
« Reply #60 on: February 07, 2006, 12:14:00 PM »

A couple of updates.

1. T2 Extreme at 1080p scaled down to 1080i on my set plays great on the 360. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
2. HDTV Pump took care of the .ts file issue within MCE and the 360. I can now play .ts files without having to rename them to .mpgs
3. HDTV2MPEG combined 10gigs of .ts files in about 15mins.

Thanks for the great info from everyone here.

Does anyone know how to select a different language when streaming wmvhd from MCE?  The native language for my rented "Bulletproof Monk" is German with English as an option through the WMVHD DVD....just have to figure out how to change it on the 360.

Thanks,

Great thread,#

Lots of great info for HD. So a few observations from where i am sitting. I am gettting some great results playing back TS streams and they look great on my 32" Samsung Via the composite lead on the 360. I've got sources in all the major formats 720p, 1080i, 1080p and H264. My TV is native 720p.

H264 seems to be a bit of a lost cause atm, I've not managed to get anything to playback on the PC or the Xbox so I'd stay away from that at the moment.

Now i can get most other stuff to play. Most of it is downloaded as multiple .ts files which I join into one big file using HDTVtoMPEG2. Unfortunatly about 1 in 5 downloads wont play. At the moment I have a blank screen where a 1080i OAR of View To A Kill should be.

I cant figure out why this is happening. A few other people on this thread have mentioned this problem. Has anyone found a fix yet?

Pease

TeamX420

Edit: as i join the .ts files in HDTVtoMPEG2 it does show the movie in the progress box, so i know its there. I'm using the same app now to convert the file to .mpg

I have a problem loading the converted TS files to MPEG... I did 2 tests last night... Convered 85 Ts files to 8 MPEG files, each of these MPEG files being 1gb.

The second test was to combine all the TS files in one big MPEG, totalling 8gb...

My problem is that when I use Xbox 360 Media center, it takes an incredible amount of time to load the file.

I can see the HD lights blinking like crazy on the PC, and it takes around 2 min to load the 1gb file onto the xbox...

With the 8gb file, the single one, I had to stop cause after 10 min, it was still not happening...

The PC is wired to the same HUB as the 360... The HUB is a 10/100MBPS so it shouldn't be a problem to stream the file right?

I have 1gb ram on the PC, and it's a fairly fast media PC...

Is there something that I'm doing wrong?

Assuming you're using MCE05... just install HDTVpump from dvbportal and the 360 will play .ts files without needing to convert.  People are using HDTV2Mpeg just to join the .ts files... not to convert them to .mpg.  You can also do this with NullPacketStripper... simple program, no way to get lost, you just have to install JRE (Java Runtime Environment) before that program can run.

On a side note... I can't get this to work with Vista although it works on MCE05.  Anyone have any luck?

So, out of all these methods, which one works best for combining lots of .ts files into one big .ts file for the 360 to stream?

spot on....
only comment for peeps is that when using HDTV2MPG you need to make sure the output file is left as a .TS.
if you select Mpg it will lead to sync issues... leave it as .TS and works a treat.

I can stream .ts files to my 360 and the picture is great, however, i have no sound.
The same file will play in nero showtime with sound, files cannot play in wmp.
Any ideas?

gotta be carefull when comparing Nero Showtime, it seems to have all its own internal codecs, that are unavaliable to standard widows apps.

hence the reason the files work/sound ok in Showtime but not in WMP.

WMC and the extender use windows installed codec,s so it best to use WMP for testing.
if it works in WMP then you know the correct codecs have been installed.

the sound issues is most probably related to lack of correct codec, in this case the AC3 audio codec ?

I can get them working fine, but i'm having trouble having my shared directories that i have set up in Media Center on the PC showing up in the Media Center Extender.  All that shows up is the Shared Video directory from "my documents".  Also is there a way to share my DVD-ROM drive on my PC as I have a lot of HD content backed up on DVD-Rs and would rather not have to transfer them to my HDD just to watch it.

you ought to be able to add any folder/drive on the MCE to the videos list in the 360.
we know that when the 360 connects it creates a temp account "MX1" or summit.
so make sure the drive/folder where you want to put the vidoes is accessable by everyone and not restricted to your account/admin account.

then you need to go to MC on the 360 and then to vids.
then press the blue button and add vids
then select this computer and it ought to list all the HD's in the MCE
you can then tick box a drive or exspand the selection for individual folders.
i have a folder on my D: partition called Media and i can see it fine...

if you using a wackop combo of XP/VMWARE/MCE then it gets a little more difficult.

ekk... when doing the above (adding folders) it dopsnt list the cd drives at all.
with or without media inserted.
i suppose if such a program exsists you might be able to use your DVD drive if you can fool the PC into thinking it is a HD or some sort of HD emulation app. but a quick swifty of google dosnt show any such apps.

i wouldnt sweat it too much...it wont be eons befor we see a full hack for the 360 and when XBMC hits the 360 it will be happy days again. TBH i would still use my xbox1 with XMBC but it cannot hack the HD content.
