As promised, here are some pictures I took of mine:

Again, I did find this thing at Wal-Mart (of all places), and I haven't seen it anywhere else.  I have no idea why Logitech would ship it to Wal-Mart so early before the official release date; furthermore, I have no clue why Wal-Mart stuck it on the shelf so soon.

Also, I don't know if you can see it from the pictures, but the battery cover on the controller lists it as part number 863241-0000, and the bottom of the package lists it as part number 963321-0403.

I got that controller. 40 bucks. That's like 30 bucks less than the original one. And it uses 2 batteries. It's smaller than the original Logitech controller. So I guess it's a Logitech Controller S. It's pretty sweet. =P

Maybe Wal-Mart stole some from Logitech. /me shrugs. It could happen.

I've had mine for about 2 weeks now, courtesy my local Wal-Mart as well. I'll sell them for $55 + shipping if anyone is desperate  biggrin.gif

From what opjose is saying, it's preferable to get the older model.  I'll have to see if I can find one, and give them a try side-by-side to see if the "true" analog sticks are noticably better than the digital ones.  Anyone tried this already?

That is a good question.

It may all be marketing hype to justify the cost of the older controller.

Even an analog stick gets converted to a digital "stream" somewhere down the line...

I can't imagine that Logitech made a Dreamcast styled "switched" stick which would prevent the nuanced control that many games expected. Their controller would not be compatible with a lot of games if it merely used switches for each postition...

Well since it's quite obvious I have the Logitech controller from the pictures and Xerxes asked "Anyone tried this already?," I was saying I did in fact try this in the form of playing Crimson Skies for 5 hours after having just used an S Controller.

Ahhh, now I get it.  You post threw me a bit too. =)  I was thinkiing more about testing the controllers side-by-side.  burnmacs did his test with Crimson Skies; are there any other games that require exceptionally fine-tuned analog stick movements?  I'd be more than willing to try out my Logitech controller next to an original MS brand controller (or "S" controller) to see if the difference is noticeable.  Hopefully those of us with the newer Logitech controllers can provide some accurate test results so we can determine if it's worth it to buy one.

P.S. - Aside from the analog stick debate, the controller works quite well, although I do find that I have to press the buttons (A, B, X, Y) a little harder than I do on the "S" controller to get them to respond.

Amazingly, to my surprised, yesterday, 16.JUN.2004, I saw this controller at Circuit City, in Staten Island, NY.  The clerk was pulling them out of the box and stocking them on the shelves as I watched.  I guess now, there are two places where you can find them: Walmart and Circuit City.  I wonder if other stores will start stocking them soon,...

wink.gif  They work perfect for me because my son likes to grab at everything within his reach, so it allows me to play GC while he's awake. I have to wait until he goes for a nap or is out for the night to play my Xbox.

Why can't MS just make a wireless Controller like Nintendo did? I'd buy 4 of em the day they were released.

I hate 3rd party hardware.
