From gamesindustry.biz:

The Xbox 360 Elite is selling well, and market research is indicating a high proportion of those buying it are people who don't already own an original Xbox 360.
That's according to Neil Thompson, senior regional director for the UK and Ireland at Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices division, who spoke exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz.

"It's gone very, very, very well. Our data is saying so far that a lot of people buying it are new to the platform."
"It was interesting to us, because we thought that a lot of people who came to the platform early would have chosen the Elite, but a lot of the data we're getting out of store visits, etc, is showing it's new people, which is fantastic."

I Hate the fact that the elite is essentially a 120gb hard drive that they are charging a hell of a lot more for.  Most kids see elite and black and they think "i have to have this".  Just a marketing scheme to make more profits on the same console.  I'll stick with the premium.

You mean people who already spent $300-400 on a 360 were less eager to spend another $480 for a 2nd console than gamers who didn't drop hundreds of dollars already?  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Did they really expect a majority of owners to spend $780-880 to buy 2 360s?

I just moved into a new house and the white 360 stood out like a sore thumb next to my black entertainment system!  As my TV supports 1080p through the HDMI I went and bought an Elite.
I have to say I'm much happier with the nice quiet benq drive and the games look better with the extra pixels.  Plus I got 2 free games which I sold for almost £70.

As for the hard drive... it was a bonus to get the extra 100gig.  I've had the drive for a month and never plugged it in - as I'm still waiting for this stupid migration cable to arrive (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif)

Once I get that I can sell my Premium console - and hopefully not be much less off than if I'd just bought a £45 black knight case!

its M$, of course they did.   i rem when buying a console or a game was just that u bought your console and got your copy of whatever made you happy.  now its getting to be like comic books or baseball cards.  u dont really have a 360 unless you have the uber cool new limited ed black - green - with blue trim console ehhehhehehehheheh lololol   same for games u dont really have a copy of halo unless you forked over the 130 bux for the special ed that comes with the ultra limited plastic helmet display ehehhehhehehe lolollollololo

i think there hurting gaming more with this crap then helping.  but like i said its M$

Yeah the reason new people are coming to the platform is because 2 years down the line these are the casual cusomters that think 'Elite' means Microsoft have done something to make them ultra reliable i.e. no 3 red lights. Unfortunately this isn't the case, apart from the new heatsink, but we know how uneffective they have been.

Still it's great to see people buying more and more. With the 3 year warranty now you really can't go wrong. Unless you open the console.

Also why are people are bitching about the price. It's £20 more than the premium for 600% more HDD space and HDMI. Sounds like a good deal to me. And it's chuffing black. It's porn for your entertainment centre  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

LOL.  Why is it news that most the people who are buying the Xbox 360 Elite, don't own an Xbox 360?  Do so many people have extra money to waste that they would have to buy a 2nd Xbox 360?

The news would be if most people buying the Elite already own an Xbox 360.  Those people would be morons, unless they are doing it for modding purposes, which 99.9% of people don't do.

Me personally, I don't want to spend £130 on a 120GB drive when I can put it towards a £299 360 Elite like I'm going to on Saturday (I don't see the point in buying a premium)...(with Video Market Place launching soon and everything)...
