Maxtor 250 gig 8mb cash 7200 RPM drive, combines speed with space.  Have fun.

You should also find one that can lock... this is useful if you plan on turning off your hacked bios and going on Live. smile.gif

Personally I’ve found Maxtor 120gig 7200rpm upwards to be the best, no over heating problems even in an environment with and ambient temperature of 80°F as standard.

Western Digital are also good haven’t had one over heat yet.

Seagate I’ve had problems with failures not overheating but just plain failing.

Wouldn't touch any other as I’ve tested a lot and most of them overheat after 2 hours of continuous upload, Maxtor and Western just keep going.

anything 10,000 rpm!!!!!!!!! i think only raptor makes them

they only come in 36 and 74 or something gigs, but for movies and games, that should be enough - your never going to NEED more than 70 gigs at one time, cause u can always delete and stuff

70gig Hard drive would be fine if you had the space on a pc to store all the games/films and then you can upload them when required, this still is a slow due to the FTP transfer speed.

I would get as possible like a 250gig or 200gig takes a lot to fill it, 70 gig wouldn't hold much, bit like my PDA just the bare minimum.

The 10,000 RPM is a bit over kill as they only come standard with 5200 RPM, I seen no issues with 52 or 72 RPM to warrant 10,000 and then you have to sacrifice a lot of space.

There once was a person who said that computers would never need more than 256k of memory too. Another who said that no one needed a computer in their home.

I guess I don't really need those 200 gig drives I put in my Xbox, but then again I don't really NEED my Xbox to subsist on.

Lol!

Only I've noted a recent rash of failures with the Maxtor 120's on this board, far more so than other drives.

It's debatable as to if the problem lies with the Maxtor or that it tends to draw a bit more current from the PSU (which is quite likely) in turn causing the problem...

But a scan for the word "CLICK" will turn up many posters complaining of problems recently.

This bodes ill.

I haven't checked the power consumption specs for these drives but there tend to be a good degree of variance.

Lower power drawing drives do tend to run cooler with less aging do to thermal stress.

th ebest HD is.......MY HARD DRIVE! (because it has my music on it, lol)

anyway, i have a maxtor 160gb, it works ok but i wouldnt recommend it to anyone, maxtor drives are inexpensive, but ive seen far too many "clickers" (both in person and on the forums) for me to trust maxtor HDs too much

The quote was attributed to Bill Gates (and it was 640k, not 256k), but its a myth, he never said that.
