Also, You will NOT be able to read Originals in a PC with this (or anything else for that matter)...

Ya I had a typo,

The drive works in a PC fine you just need it in the xbox to read originals although I personally know a guy working on a windows driver so maybe someday.

does modded mean it is made for the xbox power cable that goes to the cdrom, the all yellow ones?

Modded means the firmware, motor phase, eject button are all done, and the yellow wires are connected but you use the included Y power splitter for power. This keeps it inline with the IDE standard and completely compatable for use in a PC still, but the signals needed for tray eject etc are through the yellow cord.
