I don't think the sealed case is so much of a prevention as it is a deterant.  Some people are just too chicken to open something that's been sealed at production.  Like car modifications, people add all kinds of ghetto lights and exhausts and filters... easy stuff.  But not many people will crack open the engine block to screw around with new fuel injectors.

Having visited the local tv repair shop numerous times, they have to open some cases by force when special tools are required AND the unit is too old and inexpensive so messing around for hours trying to open it is not worth it. There used to be less electronics like that, back when they were built for quality, but these days almost everything looks like a birds nest on the inside and is glued together with hotglue and duct tape.. thanks to the China boom.

They havent seen a thing that cant be opened and put back together and work just fine.

1. The guy in the our colony video is a sikh indian not an arab if I remember correctly

2. You probably wont be able to just install a larger harddrive - How are you gonna format it to whatever filesystem they are using + install dash or whatever

3. All thought about opening it are all speculative at this point, no point in talking hot glue til we have this thing in our hands

That's a very good point; however, I'm sure one it's hacked you'll be able to find tons of tutorials on how to do it online, which makes people a lot more confortable regardless of it being sealed. AFAIK there arn't really any tutorials for opening up your engine online (if you know of any please send em my way  laugh.gif ) and I'm sure if there were you'd see a lot more honda's with modified internals  rolleyes.gif

But there are more things than a HD to break.

Whats if the DVD drive goes, that was the most common fault in fist gen xboxes.
Also what about the cheapest fans on earth!
What if they go wrong, will be just have to put up with the noise instead of replacing them?

If only M$ used some decent parts for once then this might work, but it's not M$'s thing to do high quality when they can put in lower quality and sell it for the same price.

They can't legally make it break if you open it up.  All they can do is void your warranty.  When you buy the box, you own the hardware.  That's why it's perfectly legal to put in a chip.

It's the software portion that is illegal to mess with.  So can we open it?  Legally yes.  Now they may make it a bit tough to get in, but we'll find a way.  And they won't put a booby trap in there either.

smile.gif  If a market exists (and I think we can all agree that it does), mods will follow.

If MS wanted to, they could just create the case in two parts. Then 'melt' them together so a knife couldn't cut along the line or anything.

I think it is too much to risk, for MS. Why would they risk having to loose all the money of a console if all that was neededd was to replace a $.50 resistor or fuse.

maybe the mobo is encased in enamel making it impossible to solder to or even probe points... IMO this is the only thing that would severely hamper modding...

but it would make the thing weigh a TON, murder the cooling of most mobo components (especially ram) and add quite a bit of cost.
