Hi I was wondering if you could help me, I've just signed up to virgins cable internet service. I used to be on BT therefor I HAVE A BT home hub wireless router.
Now my problem is this when I connect the Virgin modem to the BT home hub and enter the BT hub settings as.

ip: 82.29.108.2
Subnet: 255.255.252.0
Default: 82.29.108.1
DHCP Server: 80.5.160.23
DNS1: 194.168.4.100
DNS2: 194.168.8.100

and then have the pc as optain automatically (DHCP) the PC gets assigned as 81.99.36.142 from the Virgin modem.

But then if I go the XBOX and have that as DHCP it gets assigned a totally different IP range??
Now that different IP range is assigned from the BT home hub and not the modem, So i'm assuming the modem can only assign one IP address so do I need to get the router to have an address assigned to that and then have the router assign addresses to the devices? I'm really confused.

Any help would be grately appreciated.

ok before i start to give you answers could you first please explain your hardware setup.
are you connecting like this...

MODEM  ----> PC ----> XBOX 360 (via crossover cable)

or

MODEM  ----> Router/Gateway 1. ----> PC
                                             2. ----> Xbox360

once i get some of these questions answered i can better help you.

also if your plan on going online with your xbox you might want to consider using opendns adresses instead of the isp assigned ones. open dns is much faster and rarely goes down and never blocks any ports.

the open dns addresses you can use are

primary : 208.67.220.220
secondary : 208.67.222.222

My setup is Modem to Router and then each device connects to the router. I have explained it in my original post along with the IP's etc.
