For a start Im ONE OF THEM, that make the "i think theres maybe 1000 people with dreamboxes. maybe 100 of which play xbox and one european browsing the xbox scene forums" kind of silly.

I own a few electronic gadgets like a modded Xbox, like a dreambox, like a modded gamecube and ohh dont forget the XBOX 360 as well, my livingroom is cluttered with computers that I run things on, if I dont have to have my PC on all the time to play internetgames, I think its a splendid idea to have it on the linux beneath the tv, yes its not a unsupported os that no ones know of, its a small linux dist (with a DVBS card in)

So stop nagging about "Its only", maybe its only 1000 users, and believe me the users who have an dreambox is techsavvy, it isnt something you sneeze out of yor nose and make it work. Leave it up to us with that kind of hardware to decide if its useful or not. Sit at your overclocked 386 and whine. Leave it up to us that have the hardware to decide. LEAVE IT UP TO US. If no one is going to use it will vanish of the earth before you can say WOW RULES. So now do us all a favour go stand in the corner and think of your internetbabes instead.

Best regards DrWize

Well actually our member count is almost 4000 dedicated users - mostly north american users. Considering this is a German engineered box that has renown worldwide reputation, you should see the usage in Europe. It you consider satellite receivers useless, then this one takes the cake lol, and will be the most useless one ever.

KaiStation is not dead - we're just not able to provide technical support for it at the moment.  Kai still runs fine on compatible routers, and the new xlink one engine does as well..The kaistation firmware is still available at http://www.kaistation.com.  The problem is that providing tech support for this platform and trying to keep up with all the new releases of other firmware builds by dd-wrt/openwrt/sveasoft/etc was taking up a disproportionate amount of time for the team.

There is a way around this now. You can upgrade to the latest firmware. I use either Thibor or tofu's hyperwrt firmware depending on the router. Enter the code below into the startup script and save. This method allows you to use the latest 3rd party firmware and still run kaistation without having to use old kaistation specific firmware:

#begin
cd /tmp
echo "#!/bin/sh
cd /tmp
if [ ! -s gokaid ]; then
wget \"http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/kaistation/profile.php?action=getgokaid&kaiid=\`nvram get kaiid\`\" -O gokaid
sleep 1;chmod +x gokaid;fi
./gokaid" > startkaid
chmod +x startkaid
echo "*/2 * * * * root /tmp/startkaid" > cron.d/check_kaid
touch crontab
mkdir wwwext
echo "<iframe width=396 height=175 frameborder=0 scolling=auto marginwidth=0 marginheight=0
src='http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/kaistation/profile.php?action=edit&kaiid=<% nvram_get(\"kaiid\"); %>&if=br0,eth0,eth1,vlan0,vlan1&style=linksys'>
" > wwwext/kai.asp
#end

After you have entered the script, saved and rebooted, go to the address below(just click), wait for sync with kai and then enter your details and reboot again:

http://192.168.1.1/ext/kai.asp
