KaiStation is not dead - we're just not able to provide technical support for it at the moment. Kai still runs fine on compatible routers, and the new xlink one engine does as well..The kaistation firmware is still available at
http://www.kaistation.com. The problem is that providing tech support for this platform and trying to keep up with all the new releases of other firmware builds by dd-wrt/openwrt/sveasoft/etc was taking up a disproportionate amount of time for the team.
There is a way around this now. You can upgrade to the latest firmware. I use either Thibor or tofu's hyperwrt firmware depending on the router. Enter the code below into the startup script and save. This method allows you to use the latest 3rd party firmware and still run kaistation without having to use old kaistation specific firmware:
#begin
cd /tmp
echo "#!/bin/sh
cd /tmp
if [ ! -s gokaid ]; then
wget \"http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/kaistation/profile.php?action=getgokaid&kaiid=\`nvram get kaiid\`\" -O gokaid
sleep 1;chmod +x gokaid;fi
./gokaid" > startkaid
chmod +x startkaid
echo "*/2 * * * * root /tmp/startkaid" > cron.d/check_kaid
touch crontab
mkdir wwwext
echo "<iframe width=396 height=175 frameborder=0 scolling=auto marginwidth=0 marginheight=0
src='http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/kaistation/profile.php?action=edit&kaiid=<% nvram_get(\"kaiid\"); %>&if=br0,eth0,eth1,vlan0,vlan1&style=linksys'>
" > wwwext/kai.asp
#end
After you have entered the script, saved and rebooted, go to the address below(just click), wait for sync with kai and then enter your details and reboot again:
