From teamxlink.co.uk:

Quote

Dreambox owners rejoice! Thanks to the diligent efforts of brucom and the assitance of MeanMF, you can now enjoy system link gaming by running kaid on your Dreambox.
For More Information: XLink Forum

From the perspective of future-proofing, this is especially good news seeing as the XLink::One (currently in testing) is a rewrite of kaid and runs just fine on my G4 PPC.

Dreambox?
The DreamBox is a Linux-powered DVB digital satellite and cable decoder set-top box, produced by German multimedia vendor Dream Multimedia. Its firmware is officially user-upgradable, due to its Linux base, as compared to third-party patching of alternate receivers.

Dreambox is a reciever used to hack satellite networks like Dish Network.  Can't see this being of any use to most ppl. Seeing how the dreambox costs a little less then $600.

What is a dreambox? www.dream-multimedia-tv.de
also visit www.jokerbird.com and also www.dreamboxnorthamerica.com

The dreambox is quite the phenomenal machine. Not only is it capable of decrypting many satellite encryption schemes using softcams and emulators in north america and abroad its a complete PVR, record to HDD/USB/CIFS/NFS you name it, it does it.  Control your complete satellite system remotely through a webpage interface, many plugins such as games/calendar/tuxmail/web browser are also available using it's ethernet port. Playback mp3's and ogg vorbis, and also any type of mpeg(true mpeg formats any res, any bitrate), record directly to raw transport stream mpegs, stream audio/video content to another dreambox, hell there are even scripts for XBMC to control it from the XBOX! Stream to a PC/mac/Linux using VLC, stream from a PC/MAC/LINUX using VLC as well, and be able to record your stream.  Stream your audio over the internet as well (video consumes too much bandwidth - so no streaminc video over the net) The box is basically PPC using a flavor over debian, and all but enigma(Dream's proprietary guide system) are open source - and the cvs/cdk is readily available - the sky's the limit.

This box is truly amazing and I own one - DM7000-S

Because it has legal uses to. its a FTA Receivers (Free-To-Air) a regular fta receiver hooks up to a motorized dish or stationary and you can point at different FTA (non scrambled) satellites and pick up some channels. Recently people have figured out how to modify the firmware on certin FTAs to allow them to fully decrypt Dish Network (including PPV) and Bell Express Vu (the canadian dish network basicly) Ever since then the popularity and prices and sales skyrocketed. Dish is also hacked with cards too but thats a different story but yeah thats what a dreambox is and thats why they allowed it because its not completely illegal it CAN be used for illegal purposes but not right out of the box you have to hook a 9 pin serial cable to it and to your computer and download a newer .bin file and flash it and point your dish to dish network. So it needs user interaction to actually steal it. but ive said to much already

.....crawling back under my rock now

I'd rather see them continue KaiStation... but that is a dead project now.... and I see this will follow in same  footsteps KaiStation did.....

KaiStation is not dead - we're just not able to provide technical support for it at the moment.  Kai still runs fine on compatible routers, and the new xlink one engine does as well..The kaistation firmware is still available at http://www.kaistation.com.  The problem is that providing tech support for this platform and trying to keep up with all the new releases of other firmware builds by dd-wrt/openwrt/sveasoft/etc was taking up a disproportionate amount of time for the team.

sounds good, but obviosly for people who already have it. would be nice to have a linux based open source box with just a little bit more power than the wrt but significantly less than a pc, to run kai and more than 4 player hosting.
