Xlink Kai With System Link
« on: January 24, 2005, 01:21:00 AM »

Both XBoxes have to be on the same subnet ie. 192.168.2.x not 192.168.2.x and 192.168.3.x

Since this applies to system-link, it applies to Kai as well.

Thats exactly my problem

I need to put my second Xbox on a different subnet for the ICS configuration but I need both xbox's to be on the same subnet to play system-link. I thought Kai could solve that since it takes xboxes from anywhere in the world with all different subnets and let's them play system-link, does it not?

Are you sure dfunked? I'm pretty sure he can just fire up two engines, one in each subnet.

You have to make up your mind. Either you have them both on the same subnet, then you don't need Kai to connect them, or you have them set up as now on different subnets each with one engine and connect them via XLink.

QUOTE
I'm new to Xlink, what profile do I run in Xlink??

The one which suits you best, among:

QUOTE
Normal Kai use

For running XLink off the pc, both the engine and the ui.

QUOTE
Seperated use - engine pc

For running the engine off the pc, with
another ui. Homemade ui ie.

QUOTE
Seperated use a- UI pc

Running the engine elsewhere, and the ui on the pc. As a wrt router, another pc, etc.

QUOTE
Engine only??

For running the engine off the pc, with an external ui. As xbmc ie.

QUOTE
And more importantly how should I set the other settings?

Correctly?

QUOTE
Port settings?

If you forwarded an udp port for XLink you fill it in here.

QUOTE
Network adapter?

Choose the network adapter somehow connected to the Xbox.

QUOTE
Accept UI connections from?

Local if you use the pc ui. All if you use external uis.

QUOTE
I've tried some of these and the boxes don't see each other. The only online instructions I can find have to do with playing online.

How many engines are you running? The ultimate guide.

From where are you running the engines?

No, you can't run two engines on the same subnet.

If the information I gave you regarding the choice of mode doesn't help you, I cannot assist you further. You must know where you're running the engines and user interfaces! I defined all the modes you asked about, me nor anyone can say it more clear.

Look in the list and compare. "Am I running the engine on the pc?" "Yes..."
"Am I using xbmc to navigate XLink" "Yes..."

Are there any reason why you must have two subnets?

does ICS need to be used for KAI? I mean, the xbox goes through the KAI engine on a pc before it hits the net anyway...

System link = local LAN = no Internet = no need for ICS on Kai.

QUOTE(rastoma @ Jan 29 2005, 10:54 AM)
ICS does not require two subnets.  Just because ICS automatically picked it when you ran the wizard doesn't mean you have to keep it.  Either manualy change it or go in your router and change the subnet that your router uses to that of what ICS is using.

No, Win 2K on the PC next door with ICS enabled
I have WinXP SP2 on both my laptops at my house but I do not want to use these for connected Xbox 2 which is next door.

QUOTE
1.... 1 Kai engine for 1 xbox. Not 1 engine for muliple xbox's.

I don't believe this is true, I think 1 Kai engine can detect multiple xbox's on the same subnet (not sure)

QUOTE
So can you have two Kai engines on the same subnet?

I agree, to my knowledge you cannot run 2 engines on the same subnet, I've tried and it boots the other engine off.
