Linksys Wrt54g Slow Ftp Speeds?

Where are you ftping from, and where are you ftping to? From the pc to the Xbox? Make sure the load is low and the cable isn't in a pile. Cables in a pile is the packet killer No.1.

i'm having the same problem although my pc is wired to the Linksys Wrt54g and the xbox connects through wireless. I still only get speeds of 2 mb even when the access point is 2 feet away from the router so i'm guessing it's not the single strength. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

Three words for you: Wireless equals crap!

Why in Gods name are you using wlan between the Xbox and router when the distance is 10 feets?! Wlan sucks on both speed and latency. Period. Connect the Xbox to the Linksys via a cable.

It makes perfect sense for everyone with a tiny drop of technical understanding.

The whole point with wireless is invalid if you care about speed.

For starters; Ethernet is 100Mbit realistically. Your Linksys is 54Mbit theoretically.

54Mbit equals 6.75Mb. Now you can atleast cut one third of that to get a realistic speed, which means that you can get 4.5Mb stable.

There isn't more to it, so a.) get a 10 ft. cable and be happy with the speed, or b.) stick to the wireless and be happy with no cables.

Edit:

I don't see how the speed could be that hurt from wireless when my internet speeds are flying?

I'm 99.9% sure your internet connection isn't 15Mbit or more.

i just bought the wrt54g just because newer tech level and for the ablility of putting kaistation  on it.  I am not interested in wireless  so same speeds as my linksys b41 using cables ...  I just plugged in the wrt54g and pulled all the cables from old one into new one .  Restarted computer and I'm connected.

I downloaded the kaistation bin and wondering if someone can post links to other hacks for the wrt54g that are FREE (link above costs money).

I saved myself 20 dollars by getting the regular wrt54g compared to the model with speed boost since installed kaistation will remove the speed boost software from router... from what I understand.

is kaistation and the firmware its packaged with @ teamxlink compatible with all versions of the wrt54g router? I noticed mine is v2.2 (found on underside of router), and I notice the kaistation firmware was built using v.3.01.3 (or I am understaing this wrong). I don't want to install that firmware and have my router start acting up!

thanks

You need to check Linksys' page out...

Edit: WRT54G - Wireless-G Broadband Router v2...

Go ahead and flash!

I use the Dlink wireless setup. all their G stuff is 108Mbps.  Screw Linksys with half that.

yea, you cant get even close to 108 Mbps with dlink or linksys or any other "108" router.. its just not possible... or stable. wireless is good for one thing in my opinion.. having a wireless laptop somewhere in the house, thats it.
