Got Kai Working But
« on: November 11, 2004, 08:00:00 PM »

Well I got Kai working and I could see games in the system-link for halo2 but the 2 games I joined, I found them to be pretty laggy and it wasn't even fun playing =/  I have a cable modem so its not my connection.  Is it always laggy or is there a way to join certain games that I won't lag in like a filter or something?

It has nothing to do with Kai and everything to do with online play (XBLive will lag under the same circumstances).  First, your latency to your host in the room (ping).  Also check out everyone elses ping and make sure there's not a bunch of people with high numbers (think of ping as time to travel over the net - bandwidth helps but not if you are playing someone accross the ocean).  If all of that checks out, another sure way to get a game to lag is for the host to have inadequate upload bandwidth to serve the number of players he's trying to.  I have DSL with 1.5mb down and 128kb up, more than enough to be a good player but not enough to host 5 on 5 or better matches.

Hope that helps clear things up a bit.

what would be a good upload rate for hosting games?

I can't really tell if the server is lagging at all since I'm the host.
