A Computer Free Tunneling Service?

check out the homepage for xbox-scene.  Today there is the xbmc update announcement and it says you can use a Linux router to run kai off of without a computer.

I really want to get into tunneling software and make use of my avalaunch and xbmc Kai features, but I don't want to deal with computer every single time i want a game.  is there a way to make it connect through my xbox without having to turn on my computer?

Yes there is a way, as dbldown768 says you can launch the app on a Xbox with Xbox linux Xebian.

The Xbox is not a multitasking system so you cannot, and will never be able to run the engine on the same Xbox you're playing on.

This is the only way if you don't want to turn on the computer.

The other option will be to use Xbmc (Avalaunch in the future) as ui, and run the engine on the pc. This way you can manage Kai from the Xbox you're also playing on.

no the 29th release is not the one on the main page .. the one on the mainpage is nov 10th, however the news article is just a KAI news article not an XBMC update .. meaning that their is no "official" release of XBMC .. you can however find it other places which i can not name .. also the news article features the Project Mayhem II skin which at this time is not the official skin of XBMC, you can download it and use it but i guess its a bit buggy ..

get the oct29th official version, it works .. you will also know how to set it up already for the next one :]

to the original post if you missed what was said you will be able to run KAI completly computer free in the near future, however you must own one of 2 specific routers ..

oh and if you use XBMC you still have to turn on your computer :]

just a thought.

for xboxes to work together in a closed loop network [ ie system link ], the manual did mention that u can use a switch.

I guess that for the xboxes in system link, they create on their own a subnet to use.

if we are able to know what subnet they are in, we can create a host somewhere and use a gateway to connect to all of them...

Please correct me if I am wrong.. I am still an amateur in networking... but I do know that for PCs to recognise each other in the tcp/ip network, they do need to be in the same subnet.

ie
192.168.1.X
255.255.255.0 [ subnet mask ]

the default gateway can be configured inside the router..

Computers can be plugged into same physical network and not see each other because they are on a different logical network(Different subnet mask)..However if the router IP is used as the default GW(on the computers) they should still be able to talk to each other even if they are on a differnet logical network.

If you have two machines setup 192.168.0.2 (Mask 255.255.255.0) and 192.168.0.3 (MASK 255.255.255.0) they will be able to talk to each other, however they will not be able talk to machines outside the router. Because the machine do not know what is the IP of the router get out.
So you should include a default GW with the IP router. The default GW lets the computers know where to direct traffic that is outside their logical network (internet, Kailink servers).

This is just an overly simplified example. No flames as to how wrong my explanation is. But feel free to add to the explaination if you want to take the time to write a longer more in depth explaination.
