Yes, as you are going to only be connecting to say 2 - 3 people on your contact list that are online, you're not going to have the problem that you get in an Arena where everyone plays in the main lobby and doesnt' create private arenas. If you were to make a private arena with 3 players in there (4 in total), and were in Messenger mode with 3 online contacts ready to play, you'd theoretically get the same performance, but won't always work out that way.
