Playing Online W/o A Pc
« on: March 24, 2004, 05:31:00 AM »

when i get the tme, i will be set up to a wireless-b cpnnection to my xbox, and i was wondering if every time i want to join a game using xbconnect or any other online game service(not live), i have to go 2 floors down to my computer to join the game, then back up to play it on my xbox.....i know this will get very annoying very quickly!
Is there xbconnect that can be run from an xbox, whether it be using linux(i have GentooX), or just the xbox alone.......i have two xboxes, so one could be running xbconnect, and the other playing halo(i CAN put the xboxes next to each other when i play), if there is ANY way to do this, please tell me how to......b/c i saw someone say he was hosting xbconnect ganmes through his xbox....thought he was doin what i am wonderin...oh, i have a switch for when i play 16 halo, so i could put my xboxes in ports 1 and 2, and the wireless bridge in port 3.
Thanks

also, would a wireless-b connection be very efficient as far as playing online, would it increase lag, etc.?
also, i know these next few questions are off topic, but would i notice any delay with wireless comepared to wired when running:linux internet, linksboks, and ftping( i know ftp will be greatly reduced, buy what would the speeds be......wired i get about 5 MBps(5000kilobytes))
whjat about all this if i upgrade to a 54mbps-g connection......108bmps-g?
also, what should your broadband specs be in order to play a good game...not much lag....i am on dsl standard...so i think mine is 512kbps down(minumum, might be more, im not sure), and 128kbps up......i think this b/c one time on my p2p client it was doing like 90kbps uploading, so that is why i think it goes 128 max.....i have all internet using programs closed when i use xbconnect also...and i still experience quite a bit of lag....any help?
i had this posted in the all online programs, but not as many ppl visit that section as this one, so please help me out here!

There is curently a program for the xbox called bo-xlink that you can control xlink(on the pc) from the xbox, for details go to http://www.xboxlink.co.uk

For the next version of xlink there wont be a app created by xlink to do this,
however avalaunch are working on integrating xlink support into there dash.

All this info has already been posted in this forum several times,.

and also, why ask a question about XBConnect in the XLink forums?

Edit: lol, but i'm on top.

Don't have the slightest idea why you would want to use XBC!

Xlink if the best there is!

as for you questions. 11Mbps is plenty fast for game play but if you have alot of interferance in the 2.4Ghz range. This can cause lots of lag in games and that is why wireless is not recomended, and changing to 54Mbps (802.11g) would not help this eather becasue it uses the same freq. as 11Mbps (802.11b).

You will still need the PC client but that can be controled via the XBox!

Read Here! Bo-Xlink

When the new version of XLink is out, you will most likely want to use the Avalaunch or one of the other dashes out there that has said they will impliment XLink support. You just have Xlink running on your computer and then find the game/room/wan you want to play in!

Happy Gaming!

EDIT: Looks like we tied on this one Taz  biggrin.gif

I just ordered 2 of those well not the 810's but the (DWL-800AP+) through justdeals.com $32 each

they have it named wrong along with alot of other products

but if you find out what it is they are selling and lookup the info for that product on your own

then you know what you are getting.

PS is you order through them this week
Get $5 Off Your Order By Entering Coupon Code GM0323

Make sure you leave comments about how they mislead people by not naming the products correctly! It isn't XtreemeG it isnt even 802.11g capable  biggrin.gif

if you want to wait a week i will let you know how well they work!

so how would this work exactly.....
i understand that u are buying two so that u can use them with syslink?
or one as access point, and the other as the bridge?
could i just buy one and use it as a bridge like the dwl-810, or do i have to buy two to get this to work.....and if i buy two(one wired connected to my router and the other on my xbox), will they operate at 22mbps?
if u can think of all the different uses of this if 2 were purchased, i would appreciate it! i already have a 802.11b wireless netgear router, so if that makes any more possibilities...sweet!

ya you only need 1 bridge if you have a AP already, The most common and most popular is the Linksys WET11 but this D-Link will do the trick too

I just got 2 because i am a networking junky and like to play around with things!

ok, but if i wanted to could i get two and use them for system link wirelessly?!?!
also, if i only get one i can use it plug and play with my netgear 802.11b router correct?this will operate at 11mbps(though the 8000AP+ can operate at 22mbps)?
so that would mean if i get two and plug one into my xbox and the other into my router with a cat5 cable, it would operate at 22mbps between the two?
would i have interference with this(router and the AP+ connected to the router both trying to recieve the signal=mess-up?)?

no there wouldent be a problem as long as you dont use the same SSID

but if you already have a AP just get one.

11Mbps is plenty fast for gaming, you wont gain anything from upping to 22Mbps.

pluss the 11Mbps would be more stable meaning less lag and packet retrys.

oh, i just thought of something.....i have two xboxes, and one will have linux on it and i will set it up for internet....will ione of these work?
also, the linux xbox will be on a monitor, and the other one will be on a 36" sony trinitron(no HD).....which one would u guys play online with?
cuz i was wondering if i should just buy 2(one for each box, duh!)......but wouldn't they get confused....like they would both takl to the router, but they would both want to interact with each other also, right? would that be a problem?
also, if i just got one, would i be able to switch it from one box to the other w/o haveing to reconfigure it and whatnot?
thanks
oh, and to the 11mbps and 22mbps not mattering while gaming...i also want to be able to FTP with these...and i have read that 11mbps only gets about 650kbps max, so that is why i was interested in two so i could have faster ftp speeds......but i guess 650x2=1300kbps....so that being compared to my average 5000kbps wired connection....yeah...u get the point...

Well it works with my Linksys router in Wireless Bridge mode,
and the repeter function works great.

But I no longer sugest buying this as a way to hook up your xbox wirelessly becasue it only has 2 settings AP, and Repeater. I kinda was thinking the repeter wasn't wireless only but would repeat to the ethernet too but so far no luck. I guess the bridge model is DLW-810 http://www.d-link.com/products/?pid=21

I will let you know if I figure it out.

Only 1 of the 2 showed up so i dont know if it is a compatability thing or just a not able to do thing.

As always Linksys WET11 adapters are the best for this function.
