Cannot Login To Xlink With Netgear Router
« on: March 11, 2004, 04:30:00 AM »

QUOTE (sonicbootie @ Mar 5 2004, 07:10 PM)
Hello.  I hope someone can help me.  I am having problems connecting to Xlink.

I currently am connecting to the Internet through a Netgear RP614 router.  I have carefully followed the documentation:  correctly forwarded the necessary ports, safe-mode / no safe-mode, etc.  I even tried making my PC's IP address static and also put my PC in the DMZ, with no success.

The only way I can log-in to Xlink is if I plug my PC directly into my cable modem (this really does me no good, except help me troubleshoot this issue.)

Can anyone offer suggestions or assistance?  Thanks!

i dont know much about that router, but you have to do a couple things in general.

1. make the pc who is getting the ports forwarded to it, static.

2. set up the ports as a "virtual server" if possible.

3. give us some more info about your network.

Is the router getting an actual internet-aware IP address (not 192.168.xxx.xxx)?  You can check this on the status page of your router's configuration web interface.  If not, you need to change the router configuration so that it gets this kind of IP address from the ISP (check with your ISP and in your router configuration page - usually 192.168.2.1, I think, for Netgear routers).
