Unfortunately you can't, and that's something that you can't overcome (it could even happen on XBox Live to a certain degree.. You talk to someone in your dashboard and tell them to host a certain game of whatever, but they never do. All the while, you're sitting there with your game disc popped in waiting for nothing heh...

You'll just have to communicate with the other guys using the chat function (UP on the right thumbstick in rooms mode or 'A' in messenger mode) to make sure that a room is ready and that they wait a few minutes for you to get the game up and running (as people who use XLink, can alread have the game ready and waiting while they do whatever they like on the PC)...
