Massive Lag In Top Spin...

Just managed to set up top spin with a buddy of mine, and we weren't able to use Kai, but were able to connect in RC2.  The thing is when we were connected there was a MASSIVE amount of lag.  Both computers were only running XLink with nothing uploading/downloading, but I noticed in XLink that the numbers for incoming/outgoing on average were 5,000 or so, but would dip (I think outgoing) up to 35,000.  Would this affect the lag that I'm receiving in the game? And how would I be able to fix this?

We both are running the latest WPICP (correct name, the program that's bundled with kai/rc2, but the new alpha version), and all ports for both router (SMC) are correctly assigned.

I played with Taz1975uk quite a bit, and he a 100 ping to me.  My buddy is in scarborough, and on Sympatico as well as myself.  Never experienced lag before with Sympatico (years ago it was *shit* for CS), and this is making me wonder...

...it was 4:30 in the morning when we got things going...both had to work the next day (him at 4:15, me at 4:30), so we really didn't have our wits about us...
