Xlink Kai Instructions
« on: January 08, 2004, 12:17:00 AM »

This thread contains all the information you'll need to know about getting yourself on to the XLink RC3 Kai BETA.

First things first, if you are yet to have made yourself a Kai BETA XTag and password, please go to

http://www.xboxlink.co.uk/kaisignup.php

and do so. Take note of the limitations on the characters.

Once you've successfully done that, you'll need to download the Kai BETA package. It includes no installer, and independently. (WinPCap comes as it's own installer).

For details on the latest updates and builds to RC3 Kai, make your way to

http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=161907

That link will contain the updates, and what's been updated.

COMMON ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS

Once you've got everything downloaded, run Kai by using the Launcher.exe executable. For now, leave the 'Force Port' box alone.

Click 'Launch Kai' once you've got WinPCap installed on your machine (you may already have had it installed).

Now log-in with the details you specified earlier in the signup form, and await the server to attach you to an Orbital.

MAXIMIZE THE WINDOW. You'll find yourself with a chat area and a chat list.

For users with routers, you'll possibly need to follow an additional step. To determine if you do or don't, add someone that's in the General Chat area, and tell them to add you to their own list. After a short delay, you should see the contact appear as online and being in Messenger Mode on your contact list. Once you see that, press the PM button and try send a test message to that contact. If they confirm that your XTag appears in red on their PC and that they received your PM succesfully, you do not need to follow any more steps or configure your router at all.

Should your contact buddy not be able to receive the PM, or you are unable to receive PMs from your buddy, your router may be blocking UDP requests due to an inbuilt firewall. The solution? Choose any port you wish to port-forward (for previous users on RC2 Omega, you could just use the '34518' or '34519' UDP ports that are port-forwarded on your router). Port-forward from your router as you would have in XLink RC2 Omega, and point it to the IP address of the PC running RC3 Kai.

Close down Kai, run Launcher.exe once again, but this time enter the UDP port number you just port-forwarded, into the 'Kai Port' box. You should now be able to receive / send PMs.

If you are able to see someone's ping, but they can't see yours, it's possible that you will also have to nominate a single UDP port-forward on your router. For 2 NIC users, it is highly unlikely you will need to do any of this.

Some people are reporting that their PC reboots shortly after running RC3 Kai. We believe this is an issue related with WinPCap and you should try installing another version that hopefully no longer reboots your machine. WinPCap versions can be downloaded from http://winpcap.polito.it/

*Make sure you always reboot after uninstalling and installing a new WinPCap version.*

Updates as they are needed...

Thanks for your continued support,
Team XLink.

What if I don't have a router? Turning off my firewall is NOT an option, especially not on Windows XP.

Program not working for me at all.  I am using a router, and have my port 4000 forwarded and can get into an arena and all.  However, I just do not connect with another user.

I can not add anybody it states they are offline to do any kind of PM.

I read the setup instructions and I have a question?

Close down Kai, run Launcher.exe once again, but this time enter the UDP port number you just port-forwarded, into the 'Force Port' box.

Can you tell me where is the "Force Port" box. I see four boxes in the launcher in the advance tab, but I don't see anything saying 'Force Port' also you show to forward two ports so which port should you enter?

Can anybody help!

Sorry, in previous builds it was Force Port. Now it says Kai Port. Put it into Kai Port. (I fixed it now).

You only choose one port. It's totally up to you, I just suggested either 34518 or 34519, as some people who use XLink RC2 will already have those forwarded.

If you really wanted, you could forward another port, port 30000, 30234, 35205 etc etc and use that, but what's the point in making extra work for yourself smile.gif

Oh dear.

1. Look at the date of the last post.

2. READ what's written on the webpage.

So closed.
