5 Xbox's, 1 Xlink Pc.. Is This Possible..
« on: January 04, 2004, 02:59:00 PM »

I have a total of 5 xboxs connected to my home network and would like to use all of them online aswell as internally.. I have played with XBC which works with limitations and would like to give Xlink a try..

Ideally I want to run Xlink on my main PC which is connected directly to the internet and then let any of the xbox host a game, with the others joining in and also to have the ability for internet users to join in .. So far it seems that when one Xbox is using Bo-Xlink the others cannot use it as it is locked, or at least the communication with Xlink is ..

it should, but you could only run boxlink from 1 box, and everyone would have to pretty much be in the same room in xlink.

And your bandwidth would have to be incredible on your internet connection. That is too many xboxes trying to share that much incoming bandwidth. It's like trying to squeeze 5 cars on a two lane road... LOL

So far we have managed a 12 player game through XBC, 5 Xbox's on my LAN and 7 players from the internet, the game ran smoothly and we certainly had no apparent bandwidth problems.. I have a 256k uplink..

Valius.. I'm not planning a LAN party at my home, these Xbox's are permanent features here.. 1 is mine, 2 belong to 2 of my kids with another one coming soon when another son gets rid of his PS2 in favor of the Xbox (Took me a long time to convince him). The last 2 Xbox's belong to my neighbour who is also wired into my LAN.. I do run Xbox's LAN parties at a local Lasertag centre but when the parties are not on, the internet is the next best thing for big games.

Thanks for your great information anyway Valius, I will be giving it a try out later when the kids are home from school..

I certainly am in the UK.. If you like we can try at the weekend as I limit my kids using their xbox's during the week otherwise they would be on them all night and never get up for school..

Favorite game at the moment is Rainbow Six 3 and Project Gotham 2, have not really played any other games online apart from these two..

^^^ What they said smile.gif

Also - XLink Kai enhances support for multibox ppl - there will soon be a "LAN Party" arena - where ppl like u can just park yourselves, then all your 5 xboxes could, bandwidth permitting, host / join whatever the hell you want, without trouble.. Other multiboxers - or single boxers for that matter, could join you, and you could join them..

This will be available soon..

TD

I look forward to seeing this LAN party arena arrive, it sounds perfect for what we would like. I have got Kai 3.0.0.3 installed but have yet to play a game on there.. I will give it a go very soon..

One thing I would like to see in Kai eventually is "unattended" mode, for example auto login, auto selection of preferred arena etc.. My reasons for this are that my Server PC is tucked away in a cupboard.. When it reboots due to a crash I have every other program automatically start up again, so it would be nice to have kai to automatically restart back where it was before the reboot.. Hope that makes sense.. !!

Kai to the rescue.. This fantastic little program solved all my problems.. I cannot recommend highly enough that you get it.

My setup is as follows:
I have Kai setup and running on my server, the PC which is connected to the internet. This is always logged in and sitting in the Rainbow Six 3 arena.

Now ANY Xbox on the network can load up Rainbow Six 3 and host a game, plus ANY Xbox on the network can join any game which is being played on the internet by users also using Kai. As yet I have not found any problems at all, it even lets the users on my lan use their headsets to talk to users on the internet, something which XBC would not do..

Kai is currently down whilst they update the servers and releae a new version, but I assure you it is going to be well worth the wait and then installing Kai...

2 xbox's on my network are also unmodded by the way..
