Do you know how to access your Router's admin panel?  There should be something called "port forwarding" or something similar.  I use LinkSys and SMC so I'm not familiar with the D-Link setup... every brand has different admin panels.

I'm also having some problems.  I have a linksys router and I can't access the generic web based ui.

I type the ip in the address area like it says and I get a time out.

I've already tried resetting the router and that doesn't work.

tried turning off the firewall but get nothing.

any ideas?

Have you ever accessed the web based ui for your router?  Is the router connected correctly?  What's the ip you are typing in?

If you've got DHCP assigned, check your little computer icon in the corner (this is with XP), and click the 'Support' tab. Look under 'Gateway'. That's the IP of your router.

so I connect to it using the default gateway?

like when I go start>run>cmd>ipconfig and find the ip and the default gateway?

I've typed in the default gateway too and get a time out.

also, I've got xp but i have no idea what little computer you're talking about.

The icon is the little 2 computers showing a network connection. You probably haven't ticked that box 'Show icon in taskbar when connected'.

That's odd that the default gateway is timing out when you try access it. But yeah the gateway, if assigned by DHCP, will be set to the router's IP.

go into your network connections folder and go from there.

I think there is a way to do a full factory reset of the router (if you want to to that). Check the manual for more info. Might be your only hope?

yeah that's a possibility I guess.  Allthough more involved than I should be getting, as I know nothing about routers and setting up connections.

I'll check the manual in the next couple of days to see whether or not the work is less than or equal to my desire to play games on xlink.
