QUOTE (flat235 @ Oct 21 2003, 06:52 PM)
Well, I always thought they would do it.. and it's finally happened..

XBConnect has recently moved their forum operations to xboxaddict, home of every stinking, stupid, 12yr old gaming noob in the world.. I only hope it brings them all which I expect it to... wink.gif Talk about asking for it... heh.. they're gonna get raped with stupid support questions.. Whatever... I like it here, where a good proportion of people know what they're doing to begin with..

Anyway, back to interesting things..

Factions is now officially amazing biggrin.gif .. coding work is progressing fine, if a little slow for my liking (real jobs are a killer - really - try it wink.gif ) .. The terraformer is now 100%, and the logic engine is about 40%.. I'm giving it all I have in my spare time, but I often find myself waking up on the sofa at like 5am sad.gif ... with 2 hours to shower and get to work.. I honestly can't give u a realistic deadline for the finished product.. All i can say is that we're putting as much time as we can into it - and when it's done, it will rock... I must also, at this point, raise a hand to TheUnprofessional and his "Jihad" project... Check it out - a lot of what he has done has been the inspiration for the XLink team to create Factions - and dont think for one moment that we're in competition - these are 2 totally different products, both of which will fucking own.. it's that simple...

RC3 will now be officially the "F" release of XLink.. ie.. "Final".. I think, after the recent suggestions we've had, and the roadmap I've been working on recently, we seriously cant do much more to make XLink better after RC3.. Again, our time is split on this - but work continues, and suggestions are always welcomed on this board.

Finally, I feel I must address the common concern about the userbase.. or lack of...

Well, I often find myself sat here thinking to myself that I'm weird, because I think i care *less* about our current userbase size than anyone else... The first  ever release of xlink had 2 users... me and tex... the 2nd release had 4 ppl, the 3rd release had about 8 ... that took 2 months... What I'm saying is, that when I get home from work every day, and see 100+ ppl on line, and a few good size rooms up, I sit back and think to myself "shit.. there are like over 100 ppl actually using the fucking thing.. thats amazing" .. Yeah - if that number was like 400 - I would be even more pleased - but u must realise where we are.. we've just come through a RAD period of over 50 releases - gaining and loosing users with each release. Yes, we could have punted out a shitty IRC based client with rooms mode like XBC - but u ppl already had that.. we're trying to break new ground - things like bo-xlink resulted from that motive.. and will certainly continue to do so - have no fear of that..

It all boils down to a simple question with XLink... either "jump on" or "jump off".. the rest is up to the users...

Anyway, more news,

Another crew is porting halflife to xbox.. and xlink has pledged our total support to the project. the build they aim to release will use no HL2 code (which imo is essential) - and will support MODS.. they seem to have decided to use bo-xlink support, and I aim to speak to them personally very soon. As I have always maintained, the future of XLink Messenger lies with the homebrew community - and this project can only strengthen that aim.. I would urge all users to give their support to Da Frog's crew, and help them to bring this product to the ppl...

Ever Yours,

TheDaddy & The XLink Crew

Awesome, thanks for the update, I am sure many others appreciate it too!

I have only one question regarding the final of xlink. Does this also mean the final for boxlink? I was wondering if you had planned to do anything else with voice and the kernel and all that.

Fuck that XBC is a bunch of sellouts for going to XBA. They made us go to a community that already exsist. They did not ask us. I feel that XBC gave up on a tasks that just needed more maint. I would have given them money to upgrade their equiptment. After all i am a PRO user and since i have supported xbc for over a year i feel they should have asked us. Either way i am done with that shit. Fuck they dont even want to listen to the people that support them. You know who i am buddy, So i am sure you might understand !

Why the need to flame mate?

Whenever you came onto the forums people always treated you with a little bit of respect because you were responsible for the other main tunnel application for the Xbox.

Meh.. "treated you with a little respect".. Sure.. thats right...

XBC has sidled up with XBA because they've seen how well XLink does from being affiliated with X-S. Simple. OK - we might not have as many users as them, but for a year before XLink existed, XBC was the only real option for syslink gamers. They thought that binding the forums to the XBA ones would bring them an influx of new users - but all thats happened is the XBA forum users are taking the piss out of them in droves. Good luck.

QUOTE
As for people here knowing what they are doing you obviously haven't read through some of the case modding or hadware forums.

Every forum has its noobs.. I was one once, so were you. The only difference with XBA is that *most* of the users have been there for ages, and are still noobs.. that doesnt happen here, in general. XBC has pulled the rug out from under its users, and Im fairly sure its all about the greenbacks. Their whole base of discussion, suggestions etc. has been dumped and now they have to start from scratch.. Look on the XBA boards - people are leaving XBC in droves...

QUOTE
Again, why do you need to belittle someone else's hard work? I only hope that with the forums moved over Tod and the rest of the guys have more time and energy for XBC, so they can come up with new ideas that you will be jealous of.

XBC is, and has always been, one of those products which probably started off as a fairly tight, simple little tunelling application - but since then it's obviously been dragged about in all directions, with bits being bolted on all over the place, and they've finally got to the point where its so damn convoluted internally, that things are starting to break, and they are impossible to track down. The only way they can get back in the game on a technical level is to start again - ground up rewrite..

So yeah... anyone who knows about writing software knows that u should never get to that point.. development methodologies exist to prevent exactly that situation. If you *do* get to that point, you product has become, quite plainly, shite.

An about the "new ideas which will be jealous of" .. to be honest, theres not much left to do.. yeah.. maybe XBC will eventually catch up (wgn, voicestream, *working* cache, bo-xlink style interface, homebrew, proper buddy list, working peer 2 peer support, clean UI, etc. etc.) - but unless they rewrite, they wont..

Don't forget that since I first started XLink, i was friendly towards them - i told Tod about stuff I was starting to bring into XLink, and once even suggested that we merge to technologies.. Of course, all this was met with either "no" or "we already had that working but we took it out of the release build" (why?).. Strange how if they consider all XLink's advanced features shit, then why have the last few things added to XBC copied XLink exactly?? ie,  VoiceStream, UDP-Holing, Caching (they call it *compression :S), buddy lists.. the list goes on..

But to answer your question, I belittle XBC's work because they show no respect for any other tunnel crew at all, and more importantly because I dont like their work. It smacks of poor design, poor planning and poor implementation. If they were coders who worked for me, I would fire them. It's that simple.

Get over it man.  XBC will always be better then X-Link.  Stop trying your little 4 year old attack antics on us.  Why be so jealous cause we teamed up with XBox addict?  Are you scared?  We havent heard a word out of your for a long time, but we make a move and you surface up from your little hole in the ground, shaking and sweat pouring off your face.  Fact of the matter is no matter what service your on you need help.  Simple as that, and we both offer that.  In all reality XBC is ALOT easier to use then X-Stink.

Whether you want to face it or not you are not the best, nor ever will be.  Face it now and you should just sellout.  You have successfully managed to piss me off and I think you are a piece of shit for it.  We never attack your service publically but now you can just suck my ass.

As for affionda, where were you?  We told everyone what was going on.  You were fine with it, i even remember reading your post in the Pro users forum.  YOu dont like XBC then fine, stay the hell off it.  We could care less about people who think they are too good.

As for helping the noobs that we may come in contact with thats great.  That means we are getting new users.  New users = more members which in turns equals better business.  See you on the flip side.

I think that line sez it all...BUSINESS...

I think users see where you guys stand in the whole realm of things. I really dont think your service is superiour...you have half the features, and twice the users...its like comparin ps2 to xbox...thats kind of silly. Of course you came out first, but your stuff sux now, because you have no innovation at all.

Way to let us all know what kind of guys your really all are.

Well I think this helps explain why there are alot more people on xbc than xlink.   And you should take a hint from the user interface on XBC.  It is streamlined and easy to use I just took a look at your ROFLMAO three windows just to find and join a game.  Unless I want to Fuck up my warenty and mod my box.

Well people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.  I would think twice about calling it a crappy interface compared to yours.  One window easy to navigate & I don't even use the chat vs.  3 windows and a modded box .

And 50 updates OMG

Which is cleaner?? easier to navigate and read?

Flat --- You didn't say anything about our give aways...  Why would I sign up for xlink.... I must admit it does look nice next to my MSN messenger though... Hrm... Is that Legit?  Did MS approve that?   Didn't think so....    So congrats on your program looking so "great" .  I mean Congrats MS for coming out with MSN messenger.   Did you see that MS themselves are donating games to us...Yes folks LEGIT games, who would have thought.   I wonder what program MS uses to test system link games online?   Interesting.....

Nice guys, don't finish last.

lets try a simple comparison, that is similar....

Compare avalaunch with evox. Evox was out first, and they get the points for that. People have stayed away from ava for a while because they thought it was unstable or was ugly or this or that.

Fact of the matter is, ava laid ground work with innovation that has people switching over to it every day. Once people actually try the software and see how well it works, they dont want to go back, because they lose loads of functionality.

Nothing has been added to XBC that would make anyone I know want to switch over to it. Nothing. It is not streamlined, its ugly. I actually tried it first and thought it was a horrible interface for someone to create. Then I read how people only played halo, and that games like midtown madness 3 wouldnt work with more than 2 players. I was like, whatever...I will try something else.

In the end, its a users choice for whatever they want to do, but I dont think its fair to associate yourselves with xlink at all, considering you have a poorly executed product that is lacking in features and variety, that you CHARGE for in the end, to bring it up to par with some of the most basic features of any homebrew app.

There were no direct attacks made until you guys came in with your low post counts (obviously you are helping all you users, including the ones here on x/s that matter the most).

Perhaps you should actually try the software out of your "competitor" xlink, and see for yourself, before you make such accusations as you have.

I speak with users every day that have setup problems, but they all want to do whatever necessary to get it working because they dont like halo-link, and they want the features xlink has.

You got me there, i now edited my post.  Now lets get on the subject of copying ideas.  What other program looks like XBC?

Well then lets take a look at your application.  Hmm I have that, its called Windows messenger.  So before your critisize about stealing ideas take a look at your own software.  Unless you like 3 windows filling up your task bar then of course we know X-Link wil be the application to get.

And what ideas have we stole?  I am curious to know?  Considering you made "XBC-LINK" so you can try to get some XBC users on your application.  Hmm, still going strong each night with XBC.

Cheers

I have tried it out, even tried XBC-LINK, didnt like it, finding games was junk I did like how easy it was to get off my computer though, becasuse it sucked ass

Flat,

Sometimes we seem to get along and have decent conversations, but then it always turns into you attacking us for what ever reason. When GameSpy was the big boy on the block XBC never attacked them.. Never..  Does XBC bother you that much? Does our existance make you uncomfortable? When is the last time you have seen ME attack your software or your service or your character? Your motives for attacking XBA and XBC leave me wondering what kind of individual you are.

You know... plain and simple, XBC is Tod's baby. This is his hobby that he does because he loves.  His ops and admin operate on loyalty to him alone (tho sometimes we get a power tripper). XBC started small, but is now obviously very huge, and with the size comes more responsibilities. The #1 priority is to make gaming online possible and to do it as well as we can. We try hard to give as much as we can and anyone who hasnt been with xbc from the start will never understand.  When it was becoming impossible to sustain xbc without money we were forced to have to offer pro, even though I myself was against it at first, it became apparant there was no other alternative. Go ahead and make fun of us coz we needed help from xba, it isnt some dubious plan to take over the tunneling scene, its two friends helping each other out.

If you do a better job than xbc, kudos to you. XBA are good guys who also give to the community, guys who wouldnt post nasty messages about us in forums because they have a professional attitude. XBC tries to avoid people who are unprofessional in our dealings because in the end our community suffers. XBC didnt want to team up with you, but you have a problem separating professionalism from what is personal, and so you get mad because Tod's opinion differs from yours.

We are gamers, we love games , we love gamers.  People like you and every other tunnel so far has only served to tear the community apart by waging war against us instead of supporting us. It's sad because respect is a two way bridge and you just blew it up. Even so, I truly wish you the best in your projects and hope you revolutionize the scene, just dont try to break it up.

Keep it coming, shits getting real deep in here
