Need Help In Blocking Xbox Live On My Home Network
« on: November 06, 2009, 12:50:00 PM »

Hello there, I've seen many topics on how to CONNECT to xbox live, but just ONE on how to block it, and it's very old (2005) I don't really know if it works nowdays.

I just need a sure fire way to block the whole xboxlive, I don't want any of the boxes I have at home even seeing it, BUT I want them avaliable for lan playing....

I have a Siemens SpeedStream 4200-Series ADSL modem and a WRT54G with the DD-WRT firmware.

I tried using the acesses restrictions on the DD-WRT to block the xboxlive service, but the console still sees it. Later I tried blocking ports 88 and 3074 ou both UDP and TCP, still no success..

I hope you guys undestood me, I want xbox live to be totally invisble to the console, while having the rest of the internet and home network visible to it.

Any help on how to achieve that would be very (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)  appreciated.

DD-WRT Ftw!!! Awesome firmware.

On topic. I would try setting xboxes to static ips. and dns servers and gateways with non used lan addresses.

Ie if the range of your lan dhcp pool is 192.168.1.10 - 192.168.1.30 set the dns to  192.168.1.80 and 192.168.1.81 and set the gateway to 192.168.1.82. That is if no machines are using any of those addresses.
Hopefully that will do it.

Other than that I would look more into mac address blocking or dns blocking configuration on dd-wrt.

he says he wants it to be able to use the rest of the internet and LAN, using phony DNS and gateways wont work for that

blocking the ports MS says you need open for Live should prevent access

# UDP 88
# UDP 3074
# TCP 3074
# UDP 53
# TCP 53

note port 53 is in there as well

Didnt see part about keeping inet for xboxes thought he was strictly trying to do lan play. Blocking 53 outgoing will interfere with dns. Apps like xbmc etc.

Can't you block the URL address of XBL in the router?

In most routers especially on Linksys, you should have an "access restrictions" section (or something like that). After assigning your 360 a static IP that is outside of the scope of your DHCP range, go into your routers access restrictions and block internet access to that IP address you gave to your Xbox. Set the gateway address on the 360 manually to your gateway's IP address. This will allow your 360 to have local network access but no internet at all. If you don't have those options in your router, blocking the ports identified earlier in this thread should also work.

I wanted to revive this thread because I wanted to know how to do this with DD-WRT as well.

You can block particular IP's from accessing the internet in DD-WRT in the "Access Restrictions" tab very easily.

You guys do know that most any bios after a certain period completely blocks Xbox Live when your mod is enabled right? What is the reason for needing to block Live at the router?
