Transfer Canceled Xbl Account From Original Xbox To 360

OK, here is a quick question. I am getting an xbox 360 on the 23rd. I want to use my old gamertag from when i had xbox live on the original xbox. Problem is, i canceled the account like 2 years ago, and the credit card/address/email/phone # are all different now. Is there any way i could get this to work? Or should i just call Microsoft?

I also find myself in an identical situation, I would hate to lose my GamerTag since my online name is as precious to me as my real name.  I had my GamerTag on an original XBox and am planning to purchase an XBox 360 ... any suggestion on how I can get it from one to the other relatively painlessly ... will it 'ust work' or will there be troubles ahead?
