How Do You Know If Your Machine Is Banned?

OK. I just bought a 2nd hand xbox 360 from ebay for reasonably cheap, hooked it up with my existing HDD, plugged the bastard in and tried to connect to Xbox Live.

The console has the NXE dashboard so has obviously been online recently, but when I try to connect it tells me that it can connnect to the internet but not to Xbox Live.

I have 2 other 360's running on Live over my LAN and I am fully aware of how to configure them to connect to the service but no matter what I do with this box it will not connect.

Could it be that this box is already banned from xbox live? How would I tell?

Please some help would be appreciated.
