I think sayimg I'm a jackass with little patience pretty much sums me up.

Except that I'm not really a jackass, I just hate it when people go off topic in forums, abreviate things/typ lik ths (serious pet peeve, though you didn't do bad in that are), and offer advice that is either incorrect or extremely confusing.

Well I am truly sorry that we got sideways, but one of my pet peeves is when people get in a hurry to explain stuff and expect people to just learn it right away. Hell I usually need exact steps the first time to understand stuff. But you are correct I should have clarified that Mike and I were previously discussing the subject to make it clear to everyone else so my comments would not have seemed to tangential. But I am glad that you explained it to me, now I know the different ways of booting a softmodded xbox.

yeah I tend to be extremely impatient, but whatever, mike's set now we just need to help mr. 2 posts get his xbox working... as if he still checks this thread after we made it a war zone and then drama central.

QUOTE(quank1half @ Nov 9 2006, 06:33 PM) View Post

So, I recently softmodded my box.  Before then, I had no problems connecting through my router to access xbox live.  I didn't have a live account but i was able to connect through a friends account no problem.  So now I'm trying to set up my own...on my softmodded box.  I get network errors.  Cables are connect properly, ports opened, upnp turned off, manually set my xbox IP.  I can ping it just fine from my computer, but I cannot connect to live to activate a new account.  Any clues?  Is this a softmod related issue?  I'm getting horribly frustrated.

Boot your xbox to an unmodded state (if you're using Ndure) or remove the softmod completely (if you're using an older softmod package), then create your xbox live account. . . done.

If using an older softmod (pre Ndure), you must remove the softmod completely so your xbox can access xbox live to create the account. Once you've created the account, you can go ahead and re-softmod the xbox. To access xbox live from the older softmods, just coldboot your game and you're done.

The reason you can't create an XBL account when your xbox is softmodded is because the softmod automatically blocks the connection to xbox live (to prevent you from getting banned).

Such a simple answer yet this thread went 2 pages?  blink.gif

You need to cold boot. Put a game in, then turn your xbox off. Power it on with the power button (not the eject button) and let the game boot up. Once it gets to its menu eject the disc to get to the Stock Ms dash with the stock bios running. This is also how you will boot when you want to play on live.

Do you know if when they installed the softmod, if they removed your original MS dash? or used the defaulst.xbe as the name of the Evox xbe? Im not to much of a wiz about softmods but usually they leave both the stock bios and stock dash on so you can go on live if you wish so. But since it just boots to the Evox dash, just me guessing here, but they might have either gotten rid of your stock bios or the stock dash. If I'm right, I don't know others here maybe in the softmod section can give you a hand on getting that straightened out.

with the most common install, you can get to the XBOX live dash by turning on the xbox by opening the dvd drive.
