I thought that if you booted to the MS Dash...the softmod does not kick on and it should work just as a normal xbox.  Unless there's some special boot method...I have an option to Go to MS Dashboard in my mod.  I tried that way.

coldboot a game.  turn on the xbox with the game you want to play on live already in the drive.   then you can play on live.

I don't think I can go into any more detail...

I believe he is asking turn it on with the eject button or the power button as both turn the console on. He's asking bc I couldn't remember which one would cold boot. I always get confused bc when i power on with my eject button I go to my chip os and then boot the retail bios smile.gif

You obviously don't know what "coldboot" means either.  Coldboot means starting the xbox with a retail game in the disk drive.  That is "coldbooting" the game.  If someone tells me to coldboot Halo2,  I put Halo2 in the drive, turn it off, and turn it back on (via power button).  That is coldbooting.

Turning on with the eject button will go xbox Live dash (with most softmods) and turning on with no game and the power button goes to the modded dash.  Neither of those have anything to do with the word "coldbooting".

I'm guessing "bc" means "because"?  Actually I couldn't understand the last part of your comment at all, you "go to [your] chip os and then boot the retail bios"?  What the fuck?

I think if you go to the MS dash from your modded dash then the exploit will still be running and you will be banned if you go online.

I dunno, he said "bios" not dash.  Maybe he's talking about the phoenix bios loader or something?

By the way, your signature should read "[...] your question would have been answered now".  The reason it sounds like "of" is because people often say "would've".

lol  i just want to make sure before i soft mod my buddies xbox since he plays on live and i dont want to fuck up his account...  so you cold boot with a retail game by putting it in, powering off and then powering on? and you cant do this with a backed up game right?

I told you how to coldboot.  Like 6 times.  Retails only.  Stock hard drive only (if he's played on live before).

ya he plays on live now, i just want to make sure he can do it before i mod his.. so all he has to do is put the retail game that he wants to play on live, in the drive, shut off the xbox then boot it back up by pressing the power button and then he can log onto live with no problem?

Yes, yes, yes, for the ninth time.  Would you like me to say it again?  Yes.

Another tip is to have the modded dash(es) change the status LED color, so you will know if you are in retail (green light) or modded (orange or red, most dashes let you choose).  That way you know to only go on live is the light is green smile.gif

Yeah, as long as you don't upgrade the hard drive he will be fine.

You obviously have no idea about Xenium chips, they have an operating system on them. You can boot to it (via the eject button) and choose what bios you want to boot. I have two, the stock bios and m8_plus bios. When I boot my stock bios, my chip turns off and boots as if my xbox was stock, when I choose my m8 bios i go to XBMC which is my dash, simple enough? Modchips allow you to do so much more, easier than softmods, why anyone would want to use softmods is beyond me.

You really should calm down, and be a bit mature about helping people. Everyone starts somewhere, and yelling at them bc you confuse them doesn't make it right to yell. Being condescending is no way to go through life.

And yes mike is he coldboots he is fine to go online. It essentially disables the mod and runs stock, till its rebooted again.

No, I have very little understanding of any modchip other than as far as I'm concerned it's a waste of time and money, not worth the risk.  I never said I did, I never said you were wrong, I just said I didn't understand what you were trying to say.  Honestly I don't think I confused him, you came in and started rambling off topic and uses bizarre abreviations.  By posting without proofreading (you actually said "He's asking [because] I can't remember which one would cold boot ") and going pretty far off topic talking about your modchip.  You used the term he was asking about, "coldboot" in a way that made your lack of understanding for the term evident, and at the very least managed to confuse the hell out of me and ade_dnb, and probably mike2355.  I wasn't trying to be condescending to him, I was just saying that having all these unfamiliar and unrelated terms thrown at him at the same time could easily confuse him, especially considering his newbie status.

Now that we've hijacked some poor kids thread for no reason other than disagreeing on how one should talk with another (and your off topic mentions of a modchip) can we get back to quank1half's original question?

quank1half: can you acces the internet from a modded dash? It seems like it's not a hardware issues (considering you can ping your xbox just fine), try connecting to the internet from xbmc.

So, I recently softmodded my box.  Before then, I had no problems connecting through my router to access xbox live.  I didn't have a live account but i was able to connect through a friends account no problem.  So now I'm trying to set up my own...on my softmodded box.  I get network errors.  Cables are connect properly, ports opened, upnp turned off, manually set my xbox IP.  I can ping it just fine from my computer, but I cannot connect to live to activate a new account.  Any clues?  Is this a softmod related issue?  I'm getting horribly frustrated.

Keeping your settings set to auto should help to if you are running a DHCP network. It takes away the possibility that another device has been assigned the same ip.

More than likely when you modded your system your retail bios were tweaked, if you run the network troubleshooter and wait for it to finish push y to view your xbox status codes, if you post them here it should give me an idea if its your bios or not, since live is very picky about "stock." Usually in the transition the eeprom is tweaked. How? we aren't quite sure but it is an all to common problem, the good news is there is an easy fix for it if the problem is eeprom related. Like I said just post your codes and we'll see.

^I never claimed to know exactly what the term coldboot meant, but thank you for explaining it so clearly, along with the other booting options for a softmodded xbox, I learn something new everyday

Mike and myself had been discussing a similar problem (coldbooting) in a different topic. That is why I clarified his question since you were to  arrogant to ask him to clarify. Last time I checked bc wasn't all that bizarre for BeCause but I don't know thats just me, I mean, I could have meant Boston College or British Columbia, but those don't seem related to xbox in anyway, so it must be the obvious answer. Talking about my modchip was clarifying, once again to you, that i have little to no experience with softmods, but that I knew that they could coldboot but since i was unfamiliar with them i was not sure of the exact procedure to coldboot. I do have to say, after reading over you posts you don't seem to be condescending, you just seem to be a jackass with little patience.
