I did the same exact thing because the retailer stated that it didn't matter.  Yes it does matter bigtime of whether you have one or the other.  I was told that the 360 v. will work for the Original and they were wrong.  I took it back and they allowed me to purchase the boxset with the headset and Crimson Skies for the price of that incorrect version.  I'd take it back and try elsewhere or see if they'd do it for you for making the mistake in the first place.
