XBL Bans people who use modified consoles.  But, there are some theories online that say Gamer Tags are 'flagged' when modding is detected.  That's why they suggested that you get a new gamer tag.  

I'd keep on playing, what's the alternative? Fear?  If you're banned, you can always go with a new hdd/eeprom.
