What error message did you get?? because either xbox live is down or you're banned. I hear people have been getting banned even with the chip disabled... but if you got the Hardware/Softward Modification error then you are banned

the actual error says

Communication Error

Unable to reach xbox live. check these possible options:
check that cables are plugged in correctly... blah blah blah

i know the box has connection because ive been around the internet downloading stuff with xbmc...

Its been awhile since I've been in the live game here, but if you get your console codes an post them I can see if i remember what they mean. what you do is let the xbox try and connect, when its done push y it will give you some numbers, post them, that will help to see whats wrong.
And just to make sure its not a simple problem to fix try the suggestions here

Well good news is your not banned, the C2 error is a fixable one. the simplest fix is by using the enigmah video switcher to change your setting to PAL and then back to Ntsc (or vise versa depending on where you are). Be careful this will make your display look like someone kicked your xbox, if you leave the screen, just change it and change it back right there. If that doesn't work try relocking your hard drive with an app that locks and unlocks a hdd properly. I think theres actually an app that only does that. Those are the two simplest solutions, lets hope it gets fixed there, Pretty much what the code is saying is that something on your xbox isnt right. your eeprom is a bit off from what it should be. lets just see if either of those work.

I have the exact same problem.

I have a x3 chip in mine with a new HDD and EEprom.

Mine also says cannot connect.  Exact same situation you have going on.

I have all the mod files in the F drive.

I do believe that the x3 does it correctly, The video switcher isn't tricky, all you do is switch it to Pal then switch it right back to NTSC, then restart you xbox, and see what live gives ya.

Gripper I suggest you try the same solutions that I gave wrongaboutmyself. They are the simplest ways to fix the C2 error, and for many do the trick.

Have either of you ever switched your video region, and then switched it back? That is one of the most common ways thats I've seen that get you to the C2 error. The good thing is the enigmah video switcher does the charm if that is your problem. Best of luck, keep us updated.

it's "video_select_v2_enigmah"  and must be run from a DVD.  Is that the program you're talking about?  I think I have the ISO, but I'd like to check.

Ya thats the one, but you don't have to boot it from a dvd, just FTP it over into your apps folder and it would be so much easier. Sorry for not getting the name right its been awhile (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) YOu can get it from the "usual places" if  yo need the app itself and not the iso

I went through this problem for a long time. The enigmah switcher did not work.  Ended up being a bad eeprom (not banned, just something was wrong with it).  Got a new one and the problem was corrented.

Good example that the C2 error isn't a banning. It just means something on your xbox isn't what it should be. There are several things that can corrupt your eeprom.

I used the Enigmah program today.

BEFORE ENIGMAH:

The communications status page showed NO s/n for my xbox.  The field was blank.  It would quickly run through wires, IP, DNS, and then say could not connect to XBOX live.  The error codes were as posted above, and the error message was a "Communication Error".

AFTER ENIGMAH:

Things definitely changed.  It NOW SHOWS THE S/N for my NEW eeprom.  It runs through wires connected and IP, then hangs on DNS for a while.  It resolves DNS and then says 'cannot connect to xbox live'.
The error screen is "Network Error" instead of "Communication Error".

I know this is incorrect.  I went through ALLLL of my router settings (which worked fine before my box crashed and I modded it) with an XBOX tech on the phone.  We explicity checked packet size and packages.  They were all correct, and he couldn't tell me why it wouldn't work.  I'm using all approved networking equipment: Linksys BEFSR41v2 router and Linksys BEFCMU10v2 cable modem.

SO where does that leave me now?  With these error codes:

1.00.5971.01

W:  0000-000B
X:  0000-F001
Y:  00C2-03E0
Z:  0000-0000
L:  0ms(0ms)         P:0/0
