Two Xbox Same Router?

Hello,
    I was able to get on xbox live with 2 xboxs at the same time but I am not able to join a party on Halo 2 with the other xbox?  Anyone know why this may be.  I get a error message when trying to join saying Network error?

You may just need a better router - I've done it before.

I can't remember the specifics for how I got it to work though, just pluigged em in...
