Can't Connect To Battlefield 2 Modern Combat
« on: April 19, 2006, 10:11:00 PM »

Hi all. I've been unable to connect to BF2MC since around wednesday of last week. I have tried every possible solution to the problem. I've even raised hell with EA support. Anyone have any suggestions?

This is my third message to EA. I have been trying to connect to EA Online for 3 days and cannot connect. I keep getting the message "Cannot connect to EA Online" To be honest I have about had it with your service. Do you have any answers on what the problem is or not? Do you people even care about your customers or not? Just tell me so I know whether to buy EA products again. Are you going to help me with this issue or not?

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts. I’m sorry for the difficulty that you are having with the game Battlefield 2.

Sorry for the inconvinience, First, please check to make sure that your Xbox is connected directly to your Cable or DSL modem. If you are using a router, check to make sure that the router you're using is official supported by Xbox Live. For further information on what routers are officially supported, go to http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/connect/routerlanding.htm

Now if your DSL or Cable modem connects directly to your Xbox already, try power cycling the modem itself. This means unplugging the modem from the wall, waiting one or more minutes and then plugging it back in. Restart the system and try again.

If at this point it still does not work, check to make sure that the ports specific to Xbox Live are opened up on your Internet Service Provider's end. These are the ports that need to be open in both incoming and outgoing directions:

UDP Ports: 88 & 3074

TCP Port: 3074

I did all that you said and I still get the message "Cannot connect to EA Online." I have checked my router and it is supported (Linksys WRT54G). I also use a wireless network game adapter that is set up properly. I have disconnected my XBox from my network and connected the cable modem directly to it and attempted to connect with the same result, "Cannot connect to EA Online." I have gone into my router settings and made sure the ports were set up as you stated: UDP Ports: 88 & 3074, TCP Port: 3074. All of this has resulted in me not being able to connect to EA Online. Since I am able to connect to all my other xBox games through Live and am forced to conclude that the problem is on the EA end. Do you have any other advice? Is there an ongoing problem with your servers? I have noticed that this problem started roughly the same time that the launch of Battlefield 2 xBox 360 occured.

Hi,

Thank you for contacting us here at Electronic Arts Technical Support. I'm sorry to hear that you're still having troubles with the game.

This can also occur if you are using a Gamertag that was previously linked to another EA account. Most often, this occurs when someone creates a Gamertag and links it to an EA account, but then has their Gamertag deleted. The Gamertag then becomes available for another player to use, but is still linked to the EA account in the EA system. When this happens, the server looks to verify against the old EA account and fails. The most common errors recieved are:

'An EA Server is not available at this time.'
'The EA Servers are currently unavailable.'
Although a more comprehensive solution is being looking into, you can get into the game immediately by creating a new Gamertag to link to your EA account. If the Gamertag is not already linked to an EA account, you will be able to link it and play without issue.

If you would like to be alerted of any new information concerning this issue, please use the Notify Me button on this link (http://support.ea.com/cgi-bin/ea.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=11681&p_created=1143153073)

I have made all attempts to connect as stated before. I did cancel my account for about 2 months, then reinstated it. However I was having no problems connecting before wednesday of last week. Just to check I created a new Gamertag and attemped to connect. I got the same result, "Cannot connect to EA Online." I have been able to connect to all other games using this gamertag: BlaringAsh. Your service is the only one I cannot connect to. I am forced to conclude that it is a problem with your equipment. Please address this issue as soon as possible. I was considering buying an xBox 360 and the 360 version of Battlefield 2, however if I cannot connect to your service it would be a waste of my money at this point.

I had my internet service provider come out and change the outlet for my cable modem. They said everything is operating great. So I'd say it's pretty obvious that it is your equipment. I noticed that you never responded to my last update, you just relisted my issue as "unresolved". Is that the EA equivalent of saying "screw it, there's nothing I can do for you so have a nice day"?

Response (Tak K.) 04/19/2006 04:38 PM
Hello,

Thank you for contacting EA technical support.

I am sorry to say that we are experiencing issues with the BF2:MC servers at this time.  Connectivity and clan features are there but you may experience sporadic availability to getting into games.  As for filing incidents, "unresolved," means exactly that.  This incident was not solved.  This is no means of brushing a problem aside.  I apologize if there is a misunderstanding.  We plan to have these issues resolved as soon as possible.

Sorry for the inconvenience that this has caused for the time being, and thank you for your patience!
Please respond back if you have anymore technical issues concerning this matter.
Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts!

I would like to thank you for giving me a straight answer. I'll be waiting to join the game when the server is up and running. Is there an ETA on the resolution to the server issue?

I read your post with interest, i have been having similar problems to yourself with logging on to battlefield 2 MC on xbox360 live. I found out you have to register with ea.com to go online with thier games.

goto http://www.ea.com/bf...jsp?id=gamertag and click "get into the ea nation" on the top right of the screen then create new account". after registering with ea you should have no further qualms with getting online.

hope that helps

I have been having the same exact problem as of about a week ago.  I had been able to connect to BF2MC online without any problem up until about a week ago.  I tried all of the suggestions on the EA support website (which is poor to say the least) in vain.  I even put my XBOX in the DMZ like the previous user did but without any success.  I am convinced that it is a problem on EA's end and not the users.  This is getting frustrating because I want to play online, the single player just doesn't hold my interest.  Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

I am going to contact EA via email and see what their reply is.  I wonder if EA might be more responsive to the problem if they were facing a class action lawsuit for nonperformance and breach of contract...

Seems like they are more focused on the XBOX 360 and the PC versions... grr.gif

One other thing that i may have to admit is that Tiscali/BT have been mucking around with my line recently but i can't be sure if this has anything to do with this issue, besides, my internet connection and other games are working fine!?!... are you 2 on Tiscali and/or have a BT Voyager Router?... just wondering if there's a pattern... i'm gonna try it round my mates house tomorrow night and see if that works!!... Surely there must be more than the 3 of us with problems!?!?!...
