Is Locking The Hard Drive Neccessary To Play Live?
« on: March 16, 2006, 12:55:00 PM »

Firstly, sorry for taking up space with a n00b question but, do I need to lock my hard drive before I can play on Xbox Live? If I do, can someone tell me an easy way to do it?

I have a ver 1.4 box with an X2 chip
Can turn chip on and off
Stock HD (some modded content)
Virgin EEPROM (never been on live)

Thanks for any help you might have,

Of course. The HD is always locked unless you unlock it yourself. And when you turn on your Xbox, the drive is unlocked. Since this is such a noobish question tongue.gif, I take it you haven't messed with your Xbox (and it sounds like your using it) so it should be locked.

So if i boot up the xbox without turning the chip on i won't be banned?

I also heard M$ is checking HDD's. Since mine is stock (with a little bit of modded stuff), i should be ok?

I have both the xboxdash.xbe and evoxdash.xbe on my Hard Drive. I'm guessing that evoxdash will only load if you turn the xbox on with the modchip on. Is that right? Will I still be able to play or will i be banned?

PLEASE HELP ME!
Do I need to get rid of evoxdash or is it ok? sad.gif I'm confused...

I have a Smartxx v2 and heres what I do.  I turn the system on, go to 'Original BIOS" and when the MS dash comes up I put Halo 2 in( or whatever game you want to play).  I was worried because I have a 100gb hdd and a ton of games.  I am still on and I have been on all day.

So, basically, as long as i boot to the normal Hard Drive I should be ok? Im getting worried about this "live update" that seems to be banning people...

You will only be banned from live if you log in with your mod turned on. Or if you modify your hardware after the first time you logged in. (i.e Upgrade your HD or even change it if yours dies)
