i had the exact same problem a couple of days ago. my friend has an original xbox and i have the 360. we both have live accounts and were not able to join each other in halo 2 at all. we were able to play against other people just fine, yet each time we tried to join each other we got that irritating message "...we're having network problems. sorry about that." i thought it was an xbox live problem. so i did a "test xbox live connection" on my 360. what stood out from the test was that the "NAT" resulted in being "Strict."
there are three categories of NAT: open, moderate, and strict. if you wanna read up more on that go here and look under NAT:
http://forums.xbox.c...7/ShowPost.aspxalright, now to the good stuff that might solve the headache for some of you out there reading this. my friend and I both have the WGR614(v6) NetGear router. we both simply updated our router firmware to Version 1.0.11 (or V1.0.11_1.0.7NA as it shows in the actual router settings) from the NetGear website, and when I did another "test xbox live connection" ....lo and behold...the "NAT" resulted in being "Open." and guess what?? my friend and i have had no problems at all joining each other since.
if you don't have the same router as me but are curious which firmware you should have for your router, then you should check out this page:
http://www.xbox.com/...uterlanding.htmanyway, i really hope this helps some of you out there. i don't really post on here, but i hope that through my frustration and headache...then some of you can avoid the same problems that i went through. calling xbox live support was of no use. i just got some Indian guy (no offense to Indian ppl) who didn't speak much English and didn't help at all.
well, good luck!!
