I do not have xbox live yet, however I do intend to get it soon. I currently have a mod chip in my xbox, and Im testing some network configurations. When I did the test, the mod chip was on and it said "connected to xbox live" in the dash. I dont have a live account or anything. I was just wondering if there's a possibility I could've gotten banned. Is there a way to find out without having an account just yet...i dont want to pay for a year of xbl and find out ive been banned (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Try using a 2 month free trial card to see if you are, and don't buy a year account until you're sure.

how bout u dont change anything in the way u have ur network setup, wait a few days, and it should say something like xbox live not found, then u can get a virgin hard drive and eeprom and get urself unbanned
that way u dont need to waste a 2 month free trial...

yes and an eeprom, if u dont kno wut that is search around on this forum for a bit. and plz dont complain about how the search engine is down cuz the google search of this site works perfectly for me. u can get any pretty much any ide hard drive u want, but ur gonna need to get an eeprom probably from the bst section of this forum. jus search around for how to flash ur eeprom and how to format, partition, and send files to ur xbox.

well, just because I'm a pretty stuborn person...I went on ebay and bought a 2month live card for like 15 bucks. Just to see if I really got banned, because I wasn't 100% convinced. Sure enough it worked when I registered and everything. I think I'm pretty lucky for not being banned. Or am I? I've heard that you can still get on live sometimes, but having to wait a few days...then getting banned. Anyway what led me to believe that I wasn't banned was I checked my XYZ codes, and second line of numbers was 4800. The forums here said if the first digit starts with a 6 then you're banned. So far I feel pretty lucky. You think things will stay good?

Edit: oh, I also forgot to mention, that a long time ago I backed up my C drive. Right before I connected to live I overwritten everything with the data from before. Not sure if that matters, but thought I'd throw it in

hmm thats pretty weird, i would expect u to be banned within a few days of signing on with ur chip on, and its been a few days already, maybe it hasnt been enough days so maybe you'll be banned in a few more days, jus give it some time...

Maybe he wasn't connected to the service long enough when his modchip was on (to process his xbox's info).

I'd say he got lucky.

i would think that if he was communicating with xbox live long enough for it to tell him that he's connected to it, then it would be long enough for the xbox to tell xbox live "hey! this kid isnt running ms bios!"

I believe (meaning I'm not sure) that the scanning and banning thing happens on login. So, when you access Xbox live with your tag.

If you run the network diagnostics, I think it only checks if it can reach the Live servers. So, in that context, connected to Live is somehting else then being on Live.

Assuming this theory is right, you would not be banned.

Nope!!!! still playing away having fun!! I guess im pretty lucky. I'm going to conclude that u can't get banned from the dash unless u login, I was connected to live for a while when that chip was on. It's been over a week now so I'm pretty convinced it's not gonna happen.
