I have a soft modded 1.0 for my daughters.  It locks up sometimes for no apparent reason.  The girls call me; I mess with it; it fixes itself quite mysteriously and I go back downstairs.  I blame "heat" for any problem I don't fully understand.  It helps my mind.

Are you talking about backups, originals, or does it matter?
When removing the ethernet cable "helps", is the problem completely fixed?
Is your 120GB drive new?
If the chip is completely disabled is the problem still present?

Try deleting the cache folder in the E drive. that should solve the problem.

I deleted the contents of the cache folder, that fixed everything, thanks a lot.  Odd that such a simple solution would solve my problem, haha.
