Share My Wireless Network
« on: September 20, 2005, 02:03:00 AM »

Greetings, I'm using my neighbor's wireless and I'd like to share that connection with my Xbox to get on Live (no moral speeches please).  I've turned on Internet Sharing (Windows XP), yet I still cannot make my Xbox connect.

Here's what I'm physically doing:
Neighbor's wireless-->pc-->router-->Xbox

Yes, I've searched, but the previous threads were not useful.

TO BE CLEAR:
My PC is connected wirelessly to neighbor's connection. I have a router, but it is not directly connected to the internet. Rather, it is in between my PC and Xbox.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Goto network settings in the Xbox Dash and goto the wireless settings and Set it to your neighbors network. Its that easy.

The ip# conflict does matter.  Make sure the two cards in your PC do not have the same ip#.

The DNS error means that your XBox isn't able to connect to your PC, the ip# is ok because the router is feeding it that info.

If your running ICS, it really depends on your router.  You should be able to plug the PC into the WAN (Internet) port and it should work because your router will distribute the connection from there (you still need to run ICS).  If you do this method then you should see if your router says it is connected and has obtained an IP# (which is supplied from your PC).

The other option of connecting the PC into the WAN port with the XBox may not work because the router "get confused", to say the least.  If your router has the option, you can 'use it as an Access Point' which is the same as disabling the DHCP Server.

Because your using ICS you may have to manually enter the ip information for the XBox and forward to correct ports.

If you connect the xbox straight to the pc and use static ip addresses can you get it to work from there? It should be easier to fault find like that and then add the router into the equation.

sad.gif  My LAN icon says "Limited or no connectivity". I havn't changed anything is the strange thing. I even tried a different cable to no avail. I've read around many message boards and can't fix this problem. I even reinstalled windows!

Any ideas for this dreaded "Limited or no connectivity?"

Thanks
