My Friend Was Banned For No Reason
« on: July 25, 2005, 06:02:00 PM »

If he was only banned from matchmaking, then it was not for NO reason.

It is so funny seeing people say that, when it is easily proven when people cheat. Have you not ever aftually seen the game tracking stuff that Bungie.net offers?

If he was not the one doing the cheating, then he may have been in the party that was, and Bungie has already stated that people will be guilty by association.

Don't like it?

Tough shit.

Well thanks for being an ass about it. But these are facts: he installed all the maps from the original disc, doesn't know how (no offense, but I know you don't want to cheat anyway) and isn't even capable of using mods to cheat, and just got back on live last saturday. Nothing bad was on that hard drive before it went back on live. And if there are public logs of what goes on, link me to them instead of asking me if I have seen them.

I had the live hard drive softmodded to try and change the video mode from pal to ntsc (since the mobo was giving no video output, except some fuzzy stuff on one of my tvs). That wasn't the problem, and didn't fix anything. So he bought a new mobo and I locked the hdd with the new code, cleared the softmod and all homebrew over ftp and then restored all oringinal files.

Guilty by association seems to be the only logical reason for the ban. But that's as stupid as the credit duping banning in the star wars mmorpg.

Does he have any action replay files on his xbox? Bungie will ban you from matchmaking if there are ANY AR files on the hard drive.

I don't use action replay, and neither does my friend. I've always ftp'd files I need onto the hard drive, then moved them to a usb thumbdrive whenever I need to do that. There were also no softmod installers/gamesave exploits on it when it went on live.

He was obviously banned for a reason

If he was cheating, good for him he deserved it
If he had modded maps, good for him
If he had files and content such as alternate dash info, good for him
If he was using racial slurrs and threats, good for him
If he made a mistake and logged on live with his chip on, good for him

Point is M$ and Bungie has rules please abide by them, don't like them don't use live
but don't expect sympathy

I have a "normal" box in which I use live for, with nothing modified on it, and I play without a mic (most of the time) so it can't be negative feedback for something I said. The day I get banned it will be for no reason.

THEN WE HAVE PROBLEMS.

for everyone else keeping live clean THANKS!!!!  I played yesterday for the first time in months and actually enjoyed the game somewhat.

He said banned from matchmaking. If he went on with the chip on, he would be banned alltogether.

twigfigure is right it is a ban from mm which means he was banned for cheating whatever it might have been. like badmonkey said if you play in a party with people that have mods then your just as guilty. He just needs a new gt and tell him to choose who he plays with a bit more carefully next time.

What is his gamertag?

If he wasn't cheating, then there should be no prob with you posting it, so we can go to Bungie.net and see for ourselves.

No, I don't believe he was banned for no reason, because no one is.

He was NOT banned from Live, so he should consider himself lucky. A ban from matchmaking at least means he can still play online. If he is such a good guy, then he should have no problems playing in some custom games with friends.

For cheating, which he was, I would have rather had him banned from Live altogether, but alas Bungie is a bit nicer than I.

I dont know why you guys are all being an ass about it. My friend was banned from matchmaking yesterday as well, and for no reason, although he is the lucky one. The only thing I can think of is(as someone stated earlier) guilty by association.

I was not so lucky, yesterday I was banned from xbox live alltogether on both of my modded xboxes, and on both gamertags. I have absolutely no idea why... I wasnt playing with the chip on, I had all original map content and everything. I know one of the gamertags was flagged for sure, but the other one I know was not. I really have no idea why I was just banned randomly.

Consider yourself lucky I guess, at least you arent banned from live and dont have to scrounge around for a new eeprom and hard drive. Just go get a xbox live trial card from somewhere and make a new gamertag.

There is always a reason.

I have had 2 modded Xboxes since the 2nd gen mods first appeared, and both have been running flawlessly on Live since before the day Live actually launched, as I was a beta tester.

I dunno what the actual reason you were banned was, and I don't really care. No one here wants to hear whining about it, because no matter what you say, there WAS a reason.

You get banned from Live, and it lists modded box as the reason, then you had something of your modded nature exposed, whether it be the mod turned on, or files in the wrong place on your HDD. Again... I don't really care.

You get banned from Halo 2 matchmaking, and you were either cheating, or you were involved with a party that was. If you got banned, you deserved it. Bungie can track cheaters, as can we all. Again... Have you actually seen bungie.net?

There have been no bans from Halo 2 matchmaking due to language, so you can rule that one out.

I'm pretty sure that's what banned him.. Right there in bold..
