Bungie's Gonna Scan Hd!
« Reply #45 on: July 20, 2005, 12:51:00 PM »

hey guys... until today i was just overlooking this thread occasionally... but now its got my interest. im a big halo 2 player and paid for a year.. so i REALLY dont want to get banned.

from what i understand so far.. softmods on your system (but not running) WILL get you banned... As will modding halo 2 maps. is this correct?

so i will be safe with my disable-able modchip, right?

we should attract some attention to this thread so maybe a few brave souls with 2month free trials can test out and post the results of connecting with their different set ups!

OK, I just downloaded it. I didn't see any hdd scan because it went really quick. I have XBIT chip in safe mode, Evox files on E: and whatever else Slayers installs on hdds.

I have been banned b4 for modded xbox error (oops) and complied with the marriage theory to get unbanned. So my gt is flagged.

I did also mod the maps for custom games and whatnot and sent the backups back to my xbox this morning via flashfxp.

Entered matchmaking (1 game only so far) no problems.

Hope it helps

i really still think that all they do is scan the cach files . to make sure none of them been modded . they also  might be checking to see if the maps been tampered with.considering it s how cheaters are doing it.

From what I'm reading on the ign boards it's not sure if this is the talked about AU that Bungie was talking about. Some people are saying that it's automatically downloaded when the log on to live and others are saying they have to go into content download and manually download it, if that's the case then what's so automatic about that. If Bungie was putting out an update to stop hackers and modders it WOULD HAVE to be automatic, otherwise I wouldn't download it.

I just got the AU and played MM for about an hour without problem. I have all sorts of junk on the C an E drive also. So unless Bungie is planning a surprise attack, it looks as if the AU is only scanning Halo 2 related directories.

THIS IS FROM BUNGIES SITE

Autoupdate 4: Q&A

Tomorrow, Wednesday the 20th of July, we will release Autoupdate 4. This is a small file that updates your version of Halo 2 to address various issues. It only takes a moment to download the file, but it is required for continued play on Xbox Live. If you do not wish to download the file, that is your choice, however, you will not be able to play Halo 2 on the Live service. So you've been warned. Read on for lots of specific info.

Q: What will happen to a player if his or her Xbox contains modded content?

A: You will be banned if you are detected playing our game with modified Halo 2 content.  Your ban will be from matchmaking, it will be permanent, and there will be no appeal process.

So it looks like it's just banning modded Halo 2 content....WAHOO!
