Where Is The Gamertag Stored

I have never used Live before, but need to help a friend out with his softmod and getting on Live.  I just need to know what folder the gamertag info is stored in.  I presume that it is in the UDATA or TDATA somewhere.   I need to completly rebuild his hard drive and I assume that FTP this folder to my PC and then back to the xbox again after I have rebuilt the hard drive will work (correct me if I am wrong).  Thanks.

no, it is stored in the boot sector of the HDD
you can do it with the disk.bin from evox backup
but just use a mem card...
