yes you can change your eeprom with your old hdd in. Everyone uses configure magic to put a new eeprom on. You will need to know the version of your xbox, and also yours friends because only certain eeproms work on certain versions. If your versions arent compatible you can aways pick an eeprom up in the buy/sell forum right below the live forum. best of luck.

your going to need a new gamertag because if you were banned then they flagged your gamertag, and every time you log on it scans your hdd to check its size. If its not the original 8- 10 then they ban.

as long as u are using a virgin eeprom + hdd then ur fine unless u are using a flagged gamertag to sign on.

accidental live logging or A.L.L"s as i just made up can occur while your chip is on even if you dont mean to, it happens alot.

if your are going to use your stock hdd you can use your old gt. If your gonna get a bigger hdd you'll need a new gt. I have stuff on my c drive so that shouldnt be a problem. M$ will only scan your hdd if your gamertag is flagged, and they check for size. you should be good on live once you get your hdd replaced, and eeprom of course.

question..i got banned yesterday cause of my hd..so do i have to buy a new gamertag or is there a way to change it with the subscribtion number i have?
