My brother got banned recently. He has a 1.0-1.4 xbox (probably not 1.4). anyway, he has an EEPROM, but i am wondering how he changes the serial number on his 120gig xbox HDD so that he can get back on live. thanks.
or has his GT been flagged now and if he does the above, will he get banned again?

You can't change the HDD serial. You need to buy a new HDD and get a new EEPROM.

That is also a fact.

A gamertag gets "flagged" once it is found to be played in a modded xbox. And that's why, even if you're changing your HD and eeprom and making your box look like a completley new xbox, it will cause a more profund checking in M$ part, and they'll finally get you banned again.

Unless, if the hard drive you're changing to is a stock, virgin HD. Then, as long as you turn your chip OFF, you're going to be fine, and you can keep your gamertag.

do you have personal knowledge of this being fact lord magnus? i have always chalked it up to dumbasses needing an excuse for why they were banned the second time. i mean if you get banned once, you are likely to make a similar mistake again. we are only human.

ok so if your gamertag is flagged the only way to get back on using the same gamertag is to use a stock "virgin" HDD and a new EEPROM.

Have there been any instances where someone has gotten back on live by using the flagged gamertag and just getting a new large HDD (lets a 120gig) and new unbanned EEPROM and not eventually getting banned?

thanks for all the help. Basically it sounds as if gamertags are in essence getting banned now as well, as the work and money it would take to get unbanned on a "flagged gamertag is about as much as a new xbox. or the only other way would be to get a new HDD (any size), new EEPROM and a brand new xbox live account (new Gamertag).

Basically, what Lord Magnus says is correct.

As far as we know, you need a non banned HD to get on live. You also need a non-banned eeprom. You also need a non-flagged GamerTag if you want to use a non-stock HD.

So, if you don't want to get a new gamertag then you have to use a stock HD. If you also want to use a large HD then you need to devise some sortof of HD switching strategy.

Or you can just go out and buy a new xbox, and use that only for live.
