You'll probably need to uninstall the mod, because it's likely some M$ files have been renamed/moved.

no u can go ahead and update, its not an update for the xbox live dash, its an update for halo2 specifically.  its an update that bungie put out to let everyone on live be able to play the foundation multiplayer map.  i no that this is softmod safe because i did it myself back when i was on a v1.1 xbox with 80 gb maxtor drive.  i had the audio hack softmod and i was able to download the update and my softmod still worked.

I don't think I'm asking this right - I have UDE hence I don't have a working live option in the ms dashboard.  No working live option means no downloading content; all you get is an error 21 screen.

If I restored the xbox to "factory" and did the Halo2 upgrade, would I then still be able to softmod my box? (Anyone tried this?)

u need to have the xbox live dash files on ur c drive to be able to play on xbox live......u wudnt be able to sign on by booting from the disc like u said.  if u are prompted for the update then go ahead and update.  if u get an eror 21 when trying to update then u need to change ur softmod to one that lets u update.  i dont understand how u wud be able to play on live but not be able to install a live update.

when u boot ur xbox with ur live game in the drive, it lets u sign on because u still have the xbox live dash files on ur c drive.  hence it makes no sense that u would be able to sign onto live and get prompted for the update.....but not be able to update by getting an error 21 screen

(The related files are on the disk; the XBL sign-on processing currently just checks for them being the correct version.  Error 21 occurs when the XBL version of update.xbe or xonlinedash.xbe are run with UDE/2/UXE installed [because those .xbe's checksum the font files] eh.)

Uninstall your softmod, so you can have Live! access and run the update. Softmod again using best method.
