Your in luck, I have the exact same stuff as you and I had the exact same problem.  Ok heres what you gotta do. Turn off the Modem, router, xbox, and game adapter.  Then turn on your modem, wait for the DSL light to become solid.  Then turn your router on.  Make sure the phone wire is in the Modem running to DSL phone number, then have the internet LAN cable running into the Internet Lan cable port on the back of your router.  Have a LAN cable running from the 1 Lan port on the back into the back of your computer.  Plug the game adapter into the router and the AC Plug into an outlet.  Pop in the cd that your adapter came with and run through the set up.  At the end it will tell it is done configuring your game adapter.  Close out the application, unplug your game adapter from the router and wall.  Then bring your game adapter to your xbox, plug the power in first, then the LAN cable into the back of your xbox, wait for the power light to become solid, then turn on your xbox, your ethernet light should turn on.  You should then be able to sign on to xbox live, if you cant understand my directions or this doesnt work, let me know and ill give you a call or something and help you set it up.

Yea I forgot to mention but it was still obvious from my instructions, since there is only 1 computer in the house, you have to put the router and modem on that computer.

Give some more details.
Did you run the setup CD?
Is the WEP enabled on your router?
Is the MAC filter enabled on your router?

Yes, the EASIEST thing to do there would be to use Internet Connection sharing and put a crossover cable between your PC and your XBOX. It's also much cheaper. Those wireless game adapters are expensive.

This may help

i think ran through some MAC stuff with Linksys when i phoned them up.

I don't know what you mean by that, but I would also disable the MAC filter while you are trying to get it up and running.

I understand your frustration though.  Linksys has outsourced their tech support to India or Pakistan.  I can't understand anything they are saying and half the time I feel like I know more about their products than they do!

Good luck.

Ok i tried setting up internet connecton sharing but when i select what network connection to use and i choose my one and only option i get a message apear saying some of the computers network hardware is still disconnected. also in the my taskbar my LAN icon has a red X next to it and says "a network cable is unplugged". all i have is my xbox connected straight into the ethernet port [SiS 900-Based PCI Fast Ethernet Adapter]. I dont know why its says the cable is discconnected cause its clearly plugged in. THis is the cable im using

i ran the setup cd but it would not find the games adapter even thought it was plugged into my computers ethernet port so i could not continue with the setup. So  i took it round to a friends house and set it up on his pc and the setup process worked ok. however it wouldnt work when i plugged it into my xbox.
