Xbox Live Problems
« on: January 09, 2005, 08:48:00 AM »

Hi,

Has anyone else had problems connecting to certain people on their friends list? I noticed the problem on halo2, but what is interesting with halo is you can switch the host easily......basically when certain people are hosting i can't connect, then if they switch it i can. The error given is a fantastic "A network error has occurred". I can't connect to any friends now on splinter cell, burnout is not much better and halo is a game of chance.

On the network side of things, i am connecting the xbox to a switch which then connects to a DSL router. I've tried connecting the xbox straight to the router - no change. I've set the network connections manually (with and without the xbox having an internal DNS entry), i've tried leaving it totally automatic. I've sniffed the network using ethereal from a linux box but can't see much at all to be honest. A few arp requests from the box as it boots, but not a lot when you are either connecting to live or trying to move about there, not quite sure what is happening. Must admit, networking is not my strong suit but from the OSI point of view i'm assuming this problem is above level 4 so what on earth is the problem? BTW, i have no problem connecting to optimatch games etc so it is just friends. Curiously, when i search for games i can't see my friends game either, specifying the exact criteria. Anyway, enough waffle......

Anyone any ideas??

Cheers.
